Just curious why a normally 5.56/223 rifle is offered in a 22LR configuration. Is it just to reduce ammo cost?

Oh really? I didn't know that. I'm looking to buy one and the ones I saw were 22LR and 5.56/223. I'm not sure which one to go for and why...

For kids and first time shooters to cut their teeth on as flinching when the gun fires is a big issue early on. By using small caliber rounds such as 22LR, one can condition themselves to not flinch and control the weapon better.

So if I already have a 22LR rifle (Henry lever action rifle), should I just go get the standard 223/5.56 or just stick with the 22LR?

get the 556 one and and a .22 conversion kit or a dedicated upper receiver and switch them out as you please.

I looked into that but found a S&W M&P15 22LR for like $300, where conversion kits are around $200... So if I was going to do that I'm seriously thinking of just buying both rifles >____>
