He's overrated as fuck. How can Kefka be your favorite villain when you don't even know shit about him?

Kefka is thirty-five years old and Emperor Gestahl's right-hand man. At least sixteen years ago Kefka was the first experimental Magitek Knight, which gifted him magical power, but shattered his sanity as the process had not been perfected yet. Kefka became a cruel, destructive madman, and acquired a reputation as one of the most dangerous men in the Gestahlian Empire. About six years after the procedure, the imperial military was restructured with Kefka and Leo Christophe being involved.

So you see Kefka was not some dude who had some dream and came up with strong long and in-depth plan to be come the all mighty God of Magic. He's not a rags to riches. He was literally brain damaged and went insane and re-imaged everything to be destruction and the Empire rode his wave. He literally YOLO everything. Stop tryna make it sound like he was something more than he not.

I hadn't actually heard much about The Joker until I got a bit older and The Dark Knight became a thing, I've never been a Batman fan though

It would be too cumbersome and unwieldy. If he wanted range, he should have just used a gun. They existed in the game.

It's questionable how successful Vayne was. The Nethicite and Deicite were destroyed and the Occuria are still there. One might say he destroyed the MacGuffins the Occuria were using to play shell games with the humans, but the Occuria were never defeated, except for Venat who was an Occurian traitor.

Despite that the Occurian's most powerful tools were destroyed, they don't need them to fuck with people. They led Ashe on a wild goose chase using nothing but a fake Rastler ghost. Vayne ultimately failed. Dalmasca was liberated and peace was restored with the destruction of the Deicite/Nethicite, but the Occuria are in a position to try again.

Out of all the Final Fantasy games, I think Kefka is top three. However, out of all SquareEnix games, I think Xenogears has the best.
