It feels like there are more people on welfare in my town than there are working. Not even really their fault, since there are barely any decent jobs. Businesses are abandoning the area and very few new ones dare to come near. Then there are hard drugs and shootings everywhere on top of it.

What's really baffling is NY's bright idea of giving away free college on the condition of working in NY for (I think) 6 years. Upstate is already oversaturated with degree holders that can't find work and this free tuition program is just going to make it much worse.

Well I'm 31 years old and my mom's dead, don't talk to my dad much ,my wife doesn't drive nether does my 5 year old hyperactivity autistic son so I have to go outside and drive places like grocery shopping ,find a new job .walk to the corner store 2 blocks away .i go outside a lot i guess is what I'm getting at . I try to be friendly to people so I don't become anti social but a lot of people act like assholes ,most people speed from point a to b even in snow and ice .

Property taxes in LI are the highest in the entire fucking country. There's no legal weed. They're giving out free college, totally fucking over the economy and the people who are still paying off their debts. Upstate seems to be disintegrating.

Of course people are leaving. Though I will saying having lived in one of the upstate areas mentioned here was pretty nice about a decade ago. It was very cheap compared to NYC, so I'm confused what @joe_stalin518 means, especially with the gas bills.

At the end of the day, for me, it's still very hard for me to leave the NYC/Tristate/LI area. I'm thinking about shit Jersey, but it's literally shit Jersey, and still pretty much NYC.

Ya, I had to help a homeless woman a few weeks ago, who was...at least threatened by a guy with a knife and he apparently had an ax. She approached me at about 2:30 AM in the parking lot of the Price Chopper in Saratoga Springs. Oddly the cops borderline turned it on her, as a potential trespassing issue.

There is a real melting pot of types up here.

In this case it was behind or beside the Price Chopper on Railroad place, or R50. Which has been a spot for as long as I can remember. I used to pass through there in the 90's after high school.

Both of my parents have passed. My Mom a long time ago, and my dad about 15 years ago...I found him, sudden heart attack. I know the feels.

I did go to a charity Hockey game that benefited a community center that my Mom used to work with, back when Saratoga an actual 'Bad side of town' Kinda felt good to do it.

My family landed her a little over 100 years ago. At least the Italian side, the other side was from Schenectady....but long before it became the war zone it is now.

My family landed her a little over 100 years ago. At least the Italian side, the other side was from Schenectady....but long before it became the war zone it is now.

I wish i was ,It's pretty nice past lake george (I enjoy peace and the forest , me and my son climbed my prospect this year , I still go to troy to walk around a couple times a year and try to find sanctuaries like I'm in earthbound
