I think there should be some requirement, but limiting it to just work is too restrictive. Off the top of my head I think any of these should suffice:
- Working
- Actively seeking employment
- Pursuing education (with, say, a C average or better)
- Primary caretaker for child below school age or disabled relative
- Disabled/can't work

(probably also other things I didn't think of in like 30 seconds)

You put your RESOLVE HAT back on, which conveniently is the same hat as your NORMAL HAT.

This is something I feel is pretty simple. Giving people enough money to keep the selves alive with food month by month isn't something I think either enables people nor does it have an outrageous price tag (when I was in a family of two, 200 dollars a month kept us considerably well fed.) I think work oversight is just an unneeded expense.

Are there really enough people who don't qualify for any of these to justify the extra cost of strictly enforcing these rules? And are you fine with letting those people starve to death?

this is actually not true, by the way. the final version of the bill did not contain the food stamp cuts.
