Up until now I honestly haven't kept track of anything. I just put bills on automatic pay and forget about it. I pay off my credit card completely every month.

But now the wife is pregnant and I have alot of costs coming up with moving across country in the middle of next year.

So now I need to start budgeting now.

the fuck?
yes

since when were you married?
2016

don't you have a resident's salary?
50k per year. My paycheck right now is 3900 per month. 1600 goes to rent. A couple more hundred for bills, electric, internet, etc.

and you're moving out of the bay?
residency wasn't in the bay, i've been in a different state for that

prob went to a shit med school and residency program
i'm going to start a pulmonary and critical care fellowship, so my salary will still be low. its also pretty hard to get into fellowship if you go to a shit med school and residency program.

>Count up the general cost of everything you need to pay
>See if you have enough to pay everything (include an addition hundred or so as a buffer)
>Look how much money is left
>Decide if its worth it to spend the rest on luxuries or if saving it will be better
>Repeat

My lifestyle is fairly stable so the general cost of stuff remains the same throughout the months. In your case i would look up the cost of pregnancy and raising a child and see if your current job is good enough plus make a buffer.
