This is my first time playing through the classic old ones. I got into megaman from playing battle network/starforce, zero, legends and ZX series. I did play X7 and X8 though....

Don't what controller you're using tc. SNES controls button layout; R shoot, L dash, B jump. Regular shots while dashing does double damage. Should be much easier with that setup.

R to shoot? that's weird, i usually played with the default controllers but then moved dash to L after playing the PSX games and realizing how comfortable that was...

I love the Mega Man X original trilogy, challenging and rewarding, played them as a kid, beat them all a bunch of times.

Yeah that is good too. I just like shooting with the shoulder button, plus it makes your thumb just for jumping and the occasional sub weapon change. I mostly just use the X-Buster the whole time. Basically just not having dash on A, or any face button. Welcome to the awkward hand cramping experience; trying to shoot, jump, and dash at the same time with the default setup. lol

Maybe that's it. I was really comfortable with the ZX games for L for dash and R for shooting.

I am using an x-box 360 controller and playing the collection on steam

Yeah when I was younger I would curl my index finger over and use it to hit A to dash but that has gotten more and more uncomfortable with age.

Haha I did that too a lot when I was a kid. Until I eventually messed with the button mapping and found that setup I mentioned much better.

Yeah especially Megaman 1. That game is so damn hard, and not very fun tbh. I don't shy away from hard games, but I'll probably never beat that one without save states.

The difficulty of Mega Man games as a whole is seriously overstated.

I mean Mega Man 1 is one of the easiest games for the NES just by virtue of not making you start the entire game over when you die.

Yeah true. It's mostly the Yellow Devil and Wily. So hard to dodge them, and they hit hard

I thought I'd like Megaman X more than Classic but the more I play the latter the more I like it. The aesthetic isn't as nice as X but I love the slide move.

Yeah it's definitely the best upgrade other than the dash.
