Just over a week in the desert. All those exhibits, all those crazy people. Looks like so much fun.

I know a lot of people who've been. General consensus seems to be the first time is amazing, but over time it gets worse. I haven't seen anyone say their first time was bad, but I've seen plenty of vets who say that years was bad. But there are also people who go every year and love it.

I was considering going, but that's a lot of money and a lot of time off.

Perhaps it actually has got worse over time. Too many people, too mainstream, blah blah blah. I mean, it used to be 10,000 people or whatever (and in the very beginning, was double or triple digits), and now I think it's something like 60,000 or 80,000 people.

We camped at the festival and everyone partied all night in the forest and sometimes the smaller bands would play impromptu late during the night.

The thing is I'm not sure it actually has. I think it's more like the childlike wonder of your first experience can't ever be recreated, and eventually it just becomes samey. And of course there's the old people "back in my day" who can compare every Burning Man to every other one years before and nitpick everything different. That's why I haven't ruled it out despite all the horror stories I've heard. Going once would be fun, maybe twice, but I just can't do it right now.

Although never become an organizer of any kind, the back room politics drives everyone away forever.

The fire performers/hoopers is my community of people, which is why I know a lot of people who went to Burning Man. I also know a lot of people who went to Electric Forest since there's a huge overlap of hoopers in particular and ravers, and people I know get hired to perform fire there.

I hear it's one of the better music festivals. I'm not into music festivals, but that's one I always recommend to people.

It was absolutely incredible. Something about the performers among the lights and fog in the dense parts of the forest made it otherworldly.
