Regular season stats: Mrazek: .914 McElhinney: .912 Playoffs thus far: Mrazek: .913 McElhinney (in 90 minutes of ice time, prior to tonight): .957 I don't deny that both these guys are typical journeymen that should not be as good as they are, but they have been thoroughly average most of the season/playoffs. There were some games especially against the caps where it was simply a high scoring affair on both sides. SmartMuffin 05/04/19 11:18:31 AM #144:	The real question is whether the Marlies are an AHL team of prospects, or an AHL team of AHL veterans who already know they aren't making the NHL. AFAIK, AHL success doesn't actually meaningfully correlate with NHL success later. We just remember the few instances where it did and forget the ones where it didn't. From what I've heard on podcasts and such, any team could easily construct an AHL team of veterans and dominate the AHL, but that would defeat the entire purpose... but at the same time, you need some of those guys around to provide leadership and a winning environment for your young prospects. Now I put prospects in air quotes because the Leafs are pretty stacked at forward so it's likely most of the top 6 never cracks the roster. Those 4 D men are all fair game though (Liljegren and Sandin for sure, Borgman and Rosen potentially).
