Just caught up after watching the first episode when S2 started, and the animation is absolute garbage. I feel like it gets worse with every episode. Like, half the time people are talking but nobody's lips are moving. The fighting is poo poo and feels like I'm watching a slideshow most the time.

They really fucked up giving it to whatever shit tier animation company this is.

"Isn't as good" is very polite way of putting it. This shit is borderline unwatchable. Weekly low budget animes are better animated than this garbage. At least character's mouths move when they talk.

Basically, there was no reasonable way for it to be the masterpiece quality that Season 1 was, at least for the next 2-5 years. It's not necessarily the studio's fault for the animation, just compare Kill la Kill and Ninja Slayer for an extreme example.

The animation in episode 1 is bad, but it gets better. Garo has some decent fights. It's certainly not unwatchable. Dragon Ball Super was hugely popular despite being cardboard and repeated frames. I don't think the direction in OPM Season 2 is as good as DBS, but certainly the animation is up to par compared to other contemporary anime.

On top of that, the art has never been the draw of OPM. It started as a webcomic drawn by an amateur. If you watching OPM for the art, you're in the wrong series. Check out Mob Psycho 100, check out Ping Pong the animation, go to an art gallery. One Punch Man is about a man struggling with being too strong, it's all about the humor and characters and that's still there.

Finally, manga spoilers: this is, by far, the worst part of the manga. If any part of the anime has to have lower quality, this is the best part for it. The tournament arc sucks, but it looks like they might mix things up to keep the story interesting.

We must not be watching the same thing because it gets worse and worse. On top of the moving mouth thing, they completely butchered Metal Bat vs Garou. DBS looks like masterful art compared to this shit.
