Yeah, the the God Eternal mythics in this expansion can be extremely difficult to deal with in a draft if you aren't in white and blue. Bontu, while strong, isn't even that bad unless you've got a good amount of tokens, or creatures that create tokens, or lots of spare land to sacrifice to refuel your hand. Oketra is the most ridiculous one in limited IMO, because if they don't answer it immediately and you've got creatures to cast they've pretty much lost because they are going to get overwhelmed by vigilant 4/4s, unless they have or draw into a board wipe right after.

It really is. Yeah drafts can randomize and offset things sometimes, but even still there is usually an OP card(s) that people flock to in drafts during a rotation. And often times outright terrible cards that don't mesh with the rest of the set so no one picks them or one dominate color that is miles ahead of the rest of the pack.

It's never been a big secret that Wizards doesn't really care about Limited, apart from, you know, the raw profit of every replacing his or her "collection" for each Magic session.
Limited is just pushed hard because of the profit motive above, and the fact that they can get away with a sort a "fallen empires" design model of maybe a dozen actual good cards per set and the rest paint-by-numbers. All that's really different from the 1994-95 throttledown (and the Masques throttledown) is that Garfield's original "rarer means better" model has doubled down, with the advent of an ultra-rare tier.

prerelease, I had a 6/6 army token with the enchantment that gives it lifelink. attack, go from 6 to 12 with my opponent having 6 power on board. I win this race easily.

No he's Dead if I he swings and I can tap him down and slow roll him.

I had a Finale of Destiny as my kill. He lost. Plus he had no flyers..

I feel this set is ridiculously underpowered. At least for standard...it seems to cater to Johnny's but I think it has more modern implications.

i dunno what it is exactly, but i had been playing MTGA almost every day for months, ever since before Ravnica Allegiance came out, and for some reason i'm just not feelin' War of the Spark and the current meta, so i've barely been playing at all for a couple weeks now. i guess it's probably because my Jeskai control deck was so well-tuned to the aggro heavy meta and i was doing so well and having such a blast with it that the meta shake-up which so many planeswalkers brought just hit it really hard. but i have the wildcards to augment it or to build an Esper control deck though, and i just don't really have the inclination right now to spend them and play. i dunno why.

I dont play constructed formats I stick strictly to limited formats, so much more fun than constructed

it's powerful, like some uncommons are straight up stronger than some rares

but fuck the bomb-yness of the format sometimes, doesn't feel good to lose to a massacre girl won't lie

the format is really technical, Haven't had this much fun since Dominaria, and before that, origins

My best archetype has been white weenie. Have went undefeated. It's really hard to do two colors I usually stick with one base and a splash.

Might build a Rakdos deck in paper soon. Minus the blood crypts I'll keep it basic with Dragonskull Summit.

I haven't had much luck with aggro strategies considering there's a ton of removal in the set;

in my last 5 drafts (note I do paper drafts, I don't really like drafting with arena bots, they're very dumb) I went with -

Blue Green proliferate 2 -0 split
Blue Green Proliferate 2 - 1
Black Blue - control 0 - 2 drop
Red Green Power 2 - 0 split
Red Black Control (splash blue for Tamiyo's epiphany) 2 - 0 split

I've had a lot of success with tempo oriented decks - it seems like the trick is to keep your opponent off their creature drops and leverage position - chip damage matters immensely, two drops are rare so you need to get as many as you can. planeswalkers make the aggro plan a little worse imo because eyou have to point damage at them too so it's a little iffy and cards like Price of Betrayal become premium removal in this format

As a person that likes to play white decks . What packs should I be buying for mtg arena? Should I stick to the core set 2019? Used to play a little when I was in high school. Looks like they finally did MTG right on the computer with arena. So I want to get it a shot.

Dominaria is better, because it has more of the rares/mythics you need. After you play enough you'll always find that you have endless uncommon/common wildcards.

this, Dominaria has that mythic saga that's like the backbone of the deck

Thanks, Also just one more question. There used to be a angel card. That if you landed a direct hit on the player it would make it so they couldn't attack during their turn. Is that still around or did it get left behind.

So Standard is just the last two(ish) years of cards. While there are occasionally reprints, those are mainly of more of the "bread and butter" cards. Blinding Angel hasn't been around since 2005 in Standard.
