I mean...duh. Plantation owners offered freed slaves a roof over their heads, using former slave housing, and kept workers indebted to them by over charging for necessities in plantation stores and making them work it off. They never do of course, so the owners got free labor again.

Yeah it's sad. We're all on a debt slavery system. You better not stop working or else your credit score will be obliterated so you can't buy a house or even rent and your property repossessed and you'll never be able to pass down anything to your children. Might even go to jail if you can't pay the feds back
