Yea with that podcast length for days 4+5 along with the fact they all have been parroting that they didn't film that much content as a group this year I'm not getting my hopes up for a great GotY week. Scaling back to 1 week together is fine since I get the problems of spending 2 weeks away from family and all, but to spend that limited time doing 13 hours of podcasts that just review what got released this year is pretty disappointing. It just seems like if they really think something of that nature needs to be done it could be without them all in the same room at some other time, but really i'd just say all the top 10 lists on the site do a much better job of reviewing the year of games than the podcasts even do.

Maybe it won't be as bad as i'm thinking but just having lower expectations for what GotY is coming out of GB makes me a little sad. At least GBE and their E3 stuff is still top notch.

Nah last years was pretty good. The videos were great and while the podcasts were a minor let down I'm always for them changing up thing to see if it is for the better, just look at e3 for that one. It's just when it wasnt from my point of view and they continue again for this year that is disappointing.

Yeah but I already heard them make fun of kingdom hearts for like 3 total hours or more this year! The new format has great content for sure, but it's all re-treading conversations they've had all year...

That's my biggest problem last year. Nothing new came out of the first 3 days. It was just rehashes of older conversations.

Lots of people have jobs that require you to travel. These guys travel 2-3 times a year max for work, I think they can take the extra time to put out quality content at Christmas. If this is what i can expect moving forward, in addition to a bunch of other premium content like Ranking of Fighters/Demo Derby/Game Tapes seeming to no longer be a thing, I'm probably going to cancel my premium. The last 2 years have been basically a slow-motion death of the site that started with Drew leaving.

My feeling at the time is that it was being universally panned, even if you liked the game.

But maybe that was just total coincidence that everyone I engaged with or saw talking about it shared that opinion.

Looks like there's no mystery about who will win this Friday.

Should be Abby's too at least. I can't remember the last time a game got 4 number 1s. Previous winners I can remember:

I highly recommend listening to the Outer Wilds discussion if you're skipping the recaps it sounds like a winner.

I adore this game too. Glad that it looks like the clear winner here. I guess that's why the final day is so short lol.

Im like 8 hours into Outer Wilds and I would never have predicted itd top this many lists.

Its basically impossible to complete without a guide or replaying a shitload over and over, which is not usually Giant Bomb material.

Its definitely fascinating and sometimes genuinely creepy, but again, requires a lot more investment than Giant Bomb is known for. Im interested to see the arguments, thats for sure.

I think what Outer Wilds has going for it is how intuitive the flowchart is for breadcrumbing you, not being excessively long, and the 22 minute loop making it easy to do one more go. It is quite accessible as a result.

I finished the game without ever using a guide. There is never anything that requires some sort of who would EVER think of that? logic jumps, everything has pretty clear explanations and hints.

Yeah, but how many loops did you spend on Brittle Hollow before you cleared it out?

I never tried to specifically clear out any one location, it became clear fairly early on that you will need info from multiple other places in order to complete most locations. So usually I would just have one specific goal in mind that I knew should be solvable rather than trying to 100% each location before moving on.

I will say after listening to two and a bit days these discussions are absolutely not rehashes of the regular podcast discussions. You get a full on 35 minute Outer Wilds spoilercast, and I am very much looking forward to an hour of Death Stranding talk.
