Controlling your diet is critical, and that usually entails a change in lifestyle. This is a slow process. Take small steps. If you eat out 7 days a week, starting eating out 6 and making dinner 1 day a week. Slowly replace any caloried drink with its diet version or ideally water. Slowly reduce your portion sizes. It takes dedication.

tldr: Eat less

Agreed with the first post in the topic. Take out all the liquid calories and sugars and you'll lose weight. Except I would say it's okay to do healthy snacking. Fruits, nuts etc. Remember the sugar in fruit is the good kind. No doughnuts, chips, cake etc.

Count your calories to 2000 per day.
Keep sugars low
Keep carbs low
Keep fat low
Keep protein high
Drink lots of water, especially to substitute soft drinks
Make sure your last meal is like 3 hours before you go to bed
Possibly try to intermediate fast, where you pick an 8-hour window in the day and only eat your 2000 calories during that window.

This one is huge. Virtually everyone I know that's overweight drinks like two litres/half a gallon or more of soda a day. Those are some serious calories to take in on just a beverage.

Also I feel like dieting is way easier than exercising more. I ran 2 miles and it was like "Nice! You burned 300 calories!" >_> Literally just not eating a tastykake is equivalent to running 2 miles lol. If you can exercise on top of dieting, more power to you though.

If you replace your daily medium Coca-Cola at McDonald's (16 oz), you reduce your annual calorie intake by 70,080 calories or about 20 pounds in a year. If you replace your daily 12-ounce can of Coke with water every day, you save 52,560 calories per year or about 15 pounds in a year.

Lifting actually burns more calories than cardio and gets the heart racing just as much. Running on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike is generally a waste of time for those looking to lose a lot of weight. You'll burn more calories doing 20 minutes of squats than you would 20 minutes on a cardio machine.

don't worry about "eating less" cause when you eat you're usually going by volume, not calories. so instead of eating smaller meals, eat better food. find foods that are healthy and not calorically dense that you like eating and incorporate them into your diet. cut out saturated fats like butter and cut out processed sugar and whatnot cause those are high in calories and don't fill you up. look at how filling oatmeal is while being relatively low calorie compared to something like a bagel with butter. you can sweeten it up with fruit and it'll taste great

figure stuff like that out and you'll start losing weight, plus you'll have more energy since you're getting more nutrients you weren't getting before

Go on the water diet.
That means drink nothing but water. No food and no other drinks. First day ur stomach will growl. Drink water. The second day U will get hungry. Drink more water. Third day u Will be really hungry. Water water and water. 4th day ur body will realize that there isn't any food coming in. It will start to eat it's own fat. 5th day the hunger pains will be less severe.
But expect to only sleep a couple of hours around this time. I dont understand but thats how it happened for me.
Food will smell delicious. Power on. U will start to see results.
Drink black coffee if u need energy. No sugar or cream. Its all a great way to speed up your metabolism.

Water my friend.

Those are the best ways, though.

I'll expand on the eating less. Eat only a set amount of calories for a day and stick to it. You don't even have to eat healthy, but it's highly recommended and makes things easier. That's how I lost 75 pounds. I've kept it off that way too.

Going by such large numbers doesn't work very well like that. It's not like you'd lose 20lbs a year indefinitely.

It makes more sense to calculate TDEE with and without the extra coke and see what the equilibrium weight would be for each. I.E. if you drank the coke and ate your regular diet you'd weight 185lbs, removing the coke would put your equilibrium weight at 179lbs (I pulled those numbers out of my ass but you get the idea).

I threw the numbers into a TDEE calculator and a 30 year old 5'10" sedentary man at 200lbs would eventually end up at 165lbs if he removed the 200 calorie coke from his diet every day.

It would take a long ass time but it would happen.

Look the water plan is just a diet. Any diet u get on will help u lose weight. For me it's just the fastest way to do it. But just like any diet, as soon as u get off the weight will come back. Self control is key. Obviously u will have to eat food again. Like others said eat right and exercise. Avoid late night foods. Stay away from garbage fast food. Plan ur meals and cook them. Start working out.

Do it for u

Consider sugar/carbs as a drug. If you are an addict and you get your first "hit" early in the day, you're going to be craving more. If you start your day with a sugary carby mess like pancakes with syrup, you're going to just keep craving those sugar/carbs as the day goes on.

It's very unsafe if you don't take the proper vitamins and supplements.

But for a water fast less than a week you'd be fine.

It doesn't work like that. Your body actively tries to maintain the same weight and so after a while your metabolism will slow down and you'll just put the weight back on.

Make small but permanent changes to your eating habits and critically don't reward yourself for "good behaviour".

What this means is say, replacing all that mountain dew with water, or wherever you're prepared to make a concession.

And it also means not congratulating yourself with a mars bar because you went for a walk or didn't eat breakfast.

I'm not a fan of crash diets because they just get you thinking that you can go back to how things were, or worse. A guy I know does this water fast thing every year and he looks like a raisin at 40.

Gaining weight takes years of barely any effort if you just eat shittily and don't exercise. So losing weight takes years of barely any effort if you just eat healthily and exercise a bit. If you want to lose it fast then doing long cardio runs with a calorie counted diet leads to fast results. I lost about 80 pounds in 4 months maintaining 1500 calories and exercising roughly 1000-2500 calories daily. Yes that means 2-3 hours of HARD cycling or running. Because walking or running a mile or two ain't gonna burn SHIT. What burns is making your body work hard and maintaining high heart rates for long periods of time. Shit isn't easy but you get results FAST. Pant sizes were dropping weekly or biweekly when I started doing this.

Dieting without change to the amount of exercise you do will inevitably reduce your muscle mass. Since muscle is by far the most metabolically active component of your body, losing it will inevitably slow down your body's metabolism. Forget pseudoscience, it's common fucking sense.

1. Body fat is far more readily available for energy compared to muscle mass

2. A reduction of lean body mass will decrease BMR but that does not mean it will equal calories consumed, that's a completely unfounded conclusion

3. Even if your BMR does reduce to the point of your diet change, that just means you've established a new equilibrium weight. You would not gain more weight out of nowhere. Calories in would equal calories out which means no additional mass.
