As the topic title says, smoking should be illegal since there are many prove on the harm it does to the user smoking and the people around. Imagine if you have lot of allergies and someone smoking comes near, that is really bad.

- Imagine you are at the beach enjoying the sun and salty ocean, then comes people near you and starts smoking. That is really bad.
- Imagine you are at a takeaway waiting in queue to get the food, smelling the awesome auroma and then comes people smoking. That is bad.
- Imagine your walking by the street enjoying the walk and then comes people smoking near you. That is bad.

Those people are doing harm to those around, yet the law allows them to do it. What is wrong with the law.

What the heck, in what way did I imply the smell? Smoking affects people lungs for a start and those who has asthma problem can get affected by people smoking. There are more harmful affect from smoking, but the list would be long.

Smell is the least of the problem, heck if smell was the only issue then that would be no issue at all.

If smoking is illegal, then that means anyone caught smoking will get in trouble with the law. Right now if people smokes nothing can be done since they are allowed.

It would greatly reduce the people smoking by a lot.

Can you image how many times I have to walk the other way, speed up and slow down, etc to avoid breathing their cigarette smoke.

Why do the smokers have the right to affect other people health by smoking. People are meant to breathe air not cigarette smoke. There are enough proof that smoking affect other people.

Edit if there is a queue there is no walking away.

I am aware that vehicles cause pollution, I really hate vehicles are taking long to improve to produce less pollution. We know cars with petrol cause pollution. Unfortunetly vehicles while harmful, people are required to travel, still doesn't make it good how vehicle works.

There are many things wrong, but it make the list way too long and the discussion would get too mixed up. Better to keep this thread about smoking.

There is nothing stupid about complaining about people smoking, especially when they are designed to make the user addicted and harm both the user and the people around. Smoking promotes no benefit at all, but many harmful affects.

Edit they smoke knowing full well they are doing harm to other people not just themselves.

I didn't bring up other pollution, I wanted to keep this thread about smoking.

Actually non-commercial tobacco does have medicinal properties. Commercial is largely straight poison, I agree, though you can argue it helps those with certain mental diagnoses, like schizophrenics for example. (I think thats mainly from the nicotine though, which can be ingested without smoking).

Fun fact: Hitler made both smoking and schizophrenics illegal.

Facts remain that people who smokes in public are affecting the people around them, that is what I am against, yet the law allows that.

If you are standing in a queue for takeaway or bus stop, you can't walk away and are forced to breathe. Now why should we breathe the smokers cigarette which is harmful.

Pollution is even worse. Some areas of China, breathing the air is worse than smoking several packs of cigarettes a day. I think we need to get industry under control, really. Tobacco is big business, too, but theyre not the biggest culprits when it comes to pollution and making our air unbreathable.

I think smoking is icky, yucky, and smells like shit as well, but asking for it to be illegal is just not practical. Most cigarette smokers are at least (anecdotally) much nicer about it than vapers/e-cig users. Whenever I see a guy smoking cigs near me, I wave my hand to give a sign that it's bothering me and they would usually walk somewhere else. Vapers/e-cigs would generally be assholes and even blow smoke at your face while you walk with them going "Relax, I'm not killing you or anything."
