A Kenyan man living in the U.S. illegally has been charged by Texas prosecutors with killing 11 more elderly women, whose jewelry and other valuables he stole, authorities said Thursday.

Billy Chemirmir, 46, was indicted Tuesday on multiple counts of capital murder in the deaths of the women, 76 to 94 years old, according to Dallas County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Kim Leach.

The suspect was initially arrested in March 2018 in connection with the death of 81-year-old Dallas woman Lu Thi Harris, making for a total of 12 alleged victims.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Chemirmir also faces five charges of capital murder in Collin County, but the county district clerks office declined to release any information Thursday and a spokesman for the district attorneys office didnt reply to messages seeking information. Court records in Collin County indicate that Chemirmir is charged with two counts of attempted capital murder in connection with similar attacks there.

In addition to the murder charges, Chemirmir is being held on a charge of being in the country illegally.

Chemirmirs attorney, Phillip Hayes, said Thursday that this weeks charges were a surprise and that he hadnt yet had time to review them.

...

Police said then that investigators were reviewing about 750 unattended deaths of elderly women for possible links.

This crime is not worse because he's an illegal visitor. It wouldn't suddenly become better if they were allegedly murdered by an American citizen.

If he were a legal citizen it would not make him less bad. But the fact that he didnt belong here in the first place makes this story sting more.

What is wrong with that?

This sounds like a nurse illegally euthanizing elderly patients either through neglect or malice, or possibly some prospect of financial gain.

This is actually, sadly, a relatively common occurrence in the U.S. So, stories like this do pop up from time to time. Serial killer is never the term used. Yes it may technically fit but for obvious reasons that is not how these nurses are generally described. Its a sensationalist headline.

No it doesn't. If you felt that way, how would you feel about people losing citizenship for committing crimes in other countries.

Well since felons lose their rights in the US, it's like they lose their citizenship so...

Also I'm sure if we build the wall it will keep out Africans...or anyone with the ability to fly commercial air or stow away on a ship

You mean if an American murdered people in the UK, and we took away his American citizenship? If thats what you mean I dont see the connection.

Id be more than happy to redirect funds spent on stupid ME conflicts, welfare for Israel, and foreign bases to border security and enforcement.

But isn't this and border security (from all the data we've seen) still small data points in a much larger problem (murder/drug importation/etc)? Isn't it more important to be efficient in spending resources, rather than "legislate from isolated examples"?

The government spends plenty of money of things that are either counterproductive, or help regular Americans less than border security. The items I listed are all good examples. Given that fact, its interesting to see people suddenly turn into spending hawks at the idea of redirecting funds towards border security.

I think we could reduce drug related problems by ending the war on drugs, which would save a lot of money.

So would you say that the murder of a bunch of schoolchildren by a maniac with firearms might justify looking into how can prevent maniacs from getting firearms?

The analogy works if the gun was acquired illegally, because this Kenyan was not here legally. And in that case, sure.

As for legally acquired weapons, Im curious as to why random mass shootings have become more common in the last 1-2 decades when gun control was weaker in the 1950s. Thats where I would look first.

The situation is different because Americans have a right to bear arms. The 3rd world doesnt have a right to move here.
