The developer behind the Disgaea series, Nippon Ichi Software (NIS), is not doing well financially. According to an article from Otakomu, which has been translasted by Josh Torres of RPG Site, the most recent titles from the company are not performing well in sales. Because of the numerous financial troubles, NIS reportedly can no longer pay its own employees.

One source of poor revenue is their most recent mobile title, Disgaea RPG, which has suffered from several issues since launch. In response, NIS removed the game from the market to fix it. Unfortunately, this means that NIS has been making no money from the game in the meantime.

In a last-ditch effort to save the company, NIS has issued a Moving Strike (MS) Warrant. In the stock market, an MS is used as a way to raise money without borrowing from banks or investors.

Simply put, NIS will start to sell their stocks at really cheap prices. Unfortunately, this causes the companys overall value to drop in the process.

Its tough to see a company like NIS go through financial troubles. The Disgaea series has a pretty large following, so Im personally hoping they can pull through this. The most recent entry, Disgaea 5, was even ported to Nintendo Switch, reaching sales of over 100,000 units.
As for the Western side of things, NIS America normally publishes games to help make international releases a reality. They have published several Danganronpa titles in North America and some Persona games in Europe, as well as many other fan favorites.

Heres hoping NIS can get through these tough times. Lets all play our favorite games from them to show our support!

Not surprising. Although I enjoy their games they're not really a well known widespread company. Often times I wonder if I'm the only one who ever buys their stuff lol.

I think the western crowd might be impacted the most by this. I heard besides Disgaea their in-house stuff isnt as popular but they help make a lot of international releases of other games a reality.

I guess this means that, regardless of whether they pull through or not, we probably won't be getting the rest of the Disgaea games ported to PC any time soon, if at all.

Yeah. Even though with Disgaea Im assuming the games arent connected like Final Fantasy right?

I heard they completely botched Ys VIII PC port, so fuck em

It's a shame because they've always seemed like a really good company, but I guess being practically the only tactics developer left in the industry doesn't mean much when nobody seems to want to buy tactics games.

If things get bad, hopefully Sega picks them up. They've been pretty good publishers the past few years and the Bayonetta games under Platinum we're basically made without any interference.

Every NIS game Ive played has either had a horrible localization, bugs that somehow get added during localization (Ar Tonelicos final boss bug for example), or both.

They buggered Ys 8's localization so badly that they had to actually redo the entire fucking thing. Considering how dense the Cold Steel games' scripts are, I'm seriously hoping they don't fuck those up.

Sadly not that surprising. None of their games have ever been huge successes, outside of Disgaea, & they're the only company that's actually dedicated to tactics games, when even Fire Emblem has embraced the waifu route. Maybe they should just concede to trends & make a waifu collecting gacha; if Nintendo can run two simultaneously, surely NIS can manage one.

Probably doesn't help that NISA also doesn't get to publish Idea Factory or Gust titles.

Well, the mobile Disgaea game they botched and had to recall to fix was one of the possibilities given for why theyre currently in this situation.
Ive seen people give some conspiracy theories that a corrupt executive might be pocketing their revenue too since other smaller low budget studios have been coasting along.

one of them shows up in disgaea 4 as part of the story but you dont get to recruit her until post game

and in disgaea 5 one of the characters is the final boss of the first game

It would be a damn shame if they went belly up

That said, they have a laughable rep for releases. Their disgaea 5 pc port was so badly rolled out.

Apparently NISA might still be getting out fine. It's NIS itself that might go under. I wonder how that will all work out.

They have made some of my favorite games, and I tend to enjoy almost everything they put out.

A shame they are struggling, but I'm not surprised. Their types of games aren't really visible to the majority of gamers now days; a lot of more classic gameplay types.
