There's no way to do it via account settings or the Mentions tab itself (which are both places where it probably should be), and every single time it's come up in the past people have never been overly helpful about how to do it (and at least some of the people doing it were doing via third-party add-ons anyway. (That being said, I just figured out that the site non-intuitively put it in privacy settings, so now I HAVE blocked it.
