I seem to have a harder time with it every time I do it, probably because it keeps getting more expensive and I get more scrupulous with my past experiences in mind. But man, I've been looking a while this round and nothing really jumps out clearly as the one. I guess that's only happened once before for me though.

Do you also have a hard time with this? What sort of things do you value most when you're finding a place to live?

Pretty much just bouncing place to place as the water level keeps creeping up like some elaborate james bond trap. Just roll with it until we're all homeless.

Not really. When I moved about 7 or so years ago, I found a place pretty easy. That being said, I use a certain site. And while I probably could have found a better places, it's not so bad here. It's an older house, but has a nice backyard. The owner's a little unbearable at times, but I don't deal with her much. And it's cheaper than most places, but maybe not as nice. The thing is, you won't get everything you want at the price you want. Sometimes, sacrifices are needed...

Yeah, everything gets more expensive. Square feet and storage is primary, within what I can afford. Space for exercise equipment. Ground level, nice to have a lawn and patio, room for a garden. Good parking, easy access to freeways and shopping. Walking distance to an auto shop that will rent me space to work on cars. Neighborhood and security patrols are a plus in the #5 most dangerous U.S. city.

I moved 13 times in my life. I've had some good landlords and some awful ones. Had a good one with a miserable wife who made things harder than it should have.

But yes; it absolutely blows.

I can afford what I'd want to rent, but it's still nice to save as much as possible. The dilemma for me is how much the savings is worth it for the quality of life decreases. Some people would rather live as cheap as possible to work to their dream home but I'm kinda at the age where I don't want to put up with that. Plus the housing market is so uncertain that I'd rather just enjoy what I can now. I'd still be banking some savings regardless
