I heard people saying the game sold well but it doesn't seem like it kept much of a presence on gamefaqs. So I started looking at that.

LGP has like 90% of the general threads compared to LGE. Of the 135 pages:
47 pages were pre-release discussion (35%)
70 Pages were during the first month after release (52%)
18 Pages were in the last 5 months. (13%)

I'm thinking the percentages would probably be similar to other games because announce/release dates are similar on Pokemon games. And most games get the most playtime in the first month. But obviously all the games have been out for different lengths of time. Maybe I should really be considering there's only 150 combined pages...

But to put things into perspective:
Pokemon X: 1045 Pages 1 month after release
Pokemon Sun: 334 Pages 1 month after release
Pokemon ORAS (combined): 196+69=265 pages 1 Month after release

What's a little weird I think is that LGP/E Battle Board has 1 page but the combined trade board has 176 pages? What's up with that?

At first I thought the community was hanging out on the older boards but UltraSun is the most active 3DS board and it has a similar number of pages to LGP since the year began.

it's just not that big or complex of a game, afaik.

most, if not all, of the extra mechanics that make the main games more interesting for the type of people that post here are simplified or gone entirely, and all i've heard about the endgame is that you fight the same thing over and over again for candy or something. there's also no social aspect to it like there is to pokemon go so there's not really anything to go on about there, either.

Something I hadn't considered was X had an extra year advantage of an install base following the 3DS release.

And also maybe a brand new generation on newer hardware inflated board "enthusiasm".

The game sold "well" for a switch game. It is however one of the worst selling pokemon games. I looked at the numbers for its sales when it first came out. I think like black and white 2 were the only ones that sold worse or it was US/UM.
