Alabama or Mississippi

I'd vote Alabama, but every time I do someone says Mississippi is worse but I've never been to Mississippi thankfully.

Hands down. Most ridiculous shit ever.

Huge issues with crime, poverty, drugs, homelessness, taxes, regulations, housing, insane laws based on being PC, illegal immigrate population, and education.

Alabama is nothing to be proud of but Cali is just a disgrace

Some true some lies there. Top university system, california is actually super safe compared to other states, San Diego (border city) and San Jose have tons of undocumented and still safest cities in the country....so dont lie with respect to crime.

I live in the county that is in the very upper-left corner of Alabama. So a lot of my friends and co-workers live in Tennessee. Honestly, the most backwards people are those Tennessee people, as they live in a very backwater part of the state -- that is to say from my apartment, you'd have to drive 100 miles through Tennessee to get to the nearest Walmart in that direction (although there are two Walmarts in my town).

Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, the trifecta.

Both sides of my family are from southern Lousiana and I love the cajun and creole culture, music, food, French language variations but outside of Lafayette, New Iberia, Baton Rouge and New Orleans Louisiana is a sad state (Still better than Bama and Mississippi though, Jeeezus)

Alabama is pretty bad. Mississippi is pretty bad. Pretty much every southern state without a major city is bad. I would say Louisiana is not in the bottom tier of southern states for that reason, personally.

Both Alabama and Mississippi. Arkansas. West Virginia, if you consider that southern (highly contentious in my experience). South Carolina.

The biggest city in South Carolina is less than 200k...

If it isn't a top 50 metro it is not large. tbf Birmingham is on the cusp.

It's not a bad metric. In Alabama, anywhere that's a half hour away from a Walmart is probably a crappy little rural town.
