I know technically it was an axe, but he could use it as a gun as well. Didn't they all already have guns anyway? Seems kinda...yeah pichu

The original MMPR is based on the original Super Sentai known as Kyry Sentai Zyuranger. They take the original footage & suits and run with it. I mean yeah it was kind of racist to cast the black guy as the black ranger, but the black ranger using a gun was purely coincidental IMO because he is usually marketed and advertised as using an Axe.

The black guy was gonna be the blue ranger, but he liked the black costume better and asked if he could play that part instead. It was mostly stock footage anyway.
