That's no way to bring people to your side.

I was just reading something about crocodile skin being used to make Vuitton handbags and people were outraged, and then some self-righteous vegetarian posted saying that you're a hypocrite if you protest this but you eat meat.
Like, why? People are on your side for once, instead of gatekeeping, why don't you just appreciate the fact that this appeals to people's sensibilities. It's not even hard to understand why this matters more to average folks than livestock, if you really think about it.
Most people have the perception that meat is an essential part of your diet (I'm not stating this as fact, so please, don't debate this), and livestock is a necessary sacrifice. They don't approve it when animals are kept in inhumane conditions, but they just see meat in the butcher, they don't really associate with an actual animal life. It's easy to not care when we're so distant, and when we firmly believe this to be a necessary evil.

But people will complain about skin being used to make clothes because it is not necessary.

Like, it's simple logic, why do you have to get self-righteous and preachy when people are trying to fight for good causes? Small steps eventually change things. Trying to force everything at the same time just guarantees that nothing will ever get done.

I think they are torn between feeling bad about the death of animals and the fact that meat is essential to a healthy diet.

Honestly I don't find them as annoying as people who don't know much about animals passing judgement on how people deal with them. A guy got criticized for using a drowning trap on mice, so he used a trap with no water and it resulted in one of the hungry mice mutilating and cannibalizing another.
