SNES version is definitive. Best sound and music, best translation/localization, best Kefka, Gau isn't gimped. The bugs are easy to avoid, or exploitable for replay value.

The best version is the PC / Mobile version.

2nd Least censored version (only JP SNES or PS1 are fully uncensored)

Cyan fixed so you just pick a Bushido and you can use other characters while waiting for him to execute it instead of staring at a dumbass meter going up.

All bugs from SNES plus new ones in GBA version fixed

Has all new GBA content + original SNES music

More accurate translation to original JP script

It's literally objectively the best version.

But what about how the PC/mobile sprites look like steamed vomit.

You get used to them after like an hour and they don't really bother you anymore.

To discuss the issue with sprites, let me lay it out artistically speaking.

1. The sprites were actually done by the same artist as the old sprites, so it's not the artist's ability. They were redone to look more like the Amano artwork although Terra got to keep her green hair.

2. The new sprites are drawn in a different perspective. They look better in battle because their perspective matches the side view of the battle, where as the old sprites were designed in a perspective to the world maps / mode 7 view. So they look worse when doing anything else other than fighting due to mismatched perspectives.

3. The new sprites are drawn in a higher resolution and with a different palette than the rest of the game. While the new sprites are, in isolation, better looking, they look out of place in a game which uses the older coloring style for everything else.

But if you just play the game for a few hours You literally won't even notice it. It's just kind of a shock at first.

Nah. No matter what you do to the GBA version Cyan is still useless.

Only the PC / Mobile version fixes that.
