I have about 40 hours in BotW now, and my biggest complaint so far is holy crap why is cooking such a chore.

Please give me the option to select a stack of 50 mushrooms and say "cook 10 batches of 5" with a single action. Or whatever.

Cooking at this point feels necessary and also annoyingly tedious.

BUT that's really my only issue so far. Kinda annoyed by the rate at which weapons break, too. That is much less significant though.

I played TP once when it came out and haven't booted it up since. I definitely had a good time but I didn't get lost in it like I have with BotW. So I voted BotW.

TP is my least favorite 3D Zelda. Apart from Midna being the best sidekick, there's nothing else it offers that I consider a high for the series. Other games leave it outclassed in terms of dungeons, overworld, visuals, music, and exploration, and the "total package" really doesn't mesh that well, as it suffers from some awful pacing.

To its credit, TP feels like it has resurfaced as a liked game in the franchise after being kinda shat on for years... and I'm wondering why. It aging well and being favorably reevaluated like this just doesn't pass the smell test for me.

So i said i would talk about the games in the finals, so here they are.

I'm only going to talk about the 3d ones because i can more or less directly compare them.

Ocarina of Time
-This has been my favorite game for over 20 years now and not a lot of titles are close to it imo. It has very high average dungeon quality and some NPCs that, while might not be as deep as some in other titles, do things that make them more memorable. I feel like the soundtrack in this title is the best one in the series. I think as like a zelda game this one really has the thematic feel to like an older title (much akin to link to the past) while transitioning to the 3d world.

Majora's Mask
-I've never seen MM as anything but a pretty good game as far as gameplay goes but also one I feel was rushed onto the shelves. I think the overworld is uninspired and while I really like the different mask forms you can take I also think the dungeons in this game (and there are 5? of them) are probably the worst in the series overall. The gimmick is interesting and all But I'll be honest with you and say despite beating this game several times the only real characters I have any memory of is the happy mask salesman and the skullkids. Like for a game that people say is about seeing how you influence people in clocktown, none of them really left a big impact.

Wind Waker
-Gameplay wise I think this might be the best zelda in terms of the combat (or at least tied with TP). I complained about the overworld in MM but man at least it becomes fun to move around in that one, here it tends to be kind of tedious after a while. I like Tetra and some of the npcs here, but I feel like the overall item pool is weak in this installment and the dungeons are average.

Twilight Princess
-We should get it out of the way that Midna is among the best characters the series has produced. In terms of overall dungeon quality this is the best title as well as having the most fun items in the game. Not to mention but I also feel like this also has the best overall boss selection in the series. It doesn't quite have the volume of good characters that some other titles have (although some of them are fucking great, like that little kid who becomes a tycoon), and some of the npc interaction (okay a lot of it) is pretty pointless but those are relatively minor complaints.

Skyward Sword
-Fi is prehaps the worst character in the series. Not just because of her constant interruptions but because she just bugs you for no reason at all. At least Navi was helpful. The dungeons are hit or miss. I think Lanyru and Sandship are amazing dungeons, but I also think Fire Shrine and Skykeep are among the worst dungeons in the series. I also think the boss selection in this game is by far the worst of the 3d games. There is just so much repeating too, a lot of stuff seems very uninspired. Not the mention that the game suffers from some control issues, flying is painfully slow, etc. This is just not a good game.

Breath of the Wild
-I don't think it's a secret that I'm not the biggest fan of this game. Overall I think this game has probably the best cast of the 3d games. I think the overworld is TOO big. like getting around is painful climbing up mountains forever is painful. I also think that the lack of traditional dungeons is a huge detriment to the game. I know people are like "but you have 120 shrines, that like equals dungeons) but it's not the same. You dont get the same level of like accomplishment or finality.

I think zelda 1 and 3 are like a lot more straight forward and dont need much said about them. They are both excellent games and top picks of their generation.

Zelda 2 was one of the first difficult games I tried to beat (among the other ones were Contra, Castlevania 3, NES Rambo etc). Keep in mind I was like 6 years old or something when I was doing this so maybe like a little younger than intended. But there is just a ton of dumb things in Zelda 2 that I think are somewhat unreasonable. Nothing as bad as like the Castlevania 2 tornado, but you know.
