Genesis/Mega Drive JPN - Oct 1988
PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16 JPN - Oct 1987
SFC - Nov 1990

The competition had two and three year head starts and still ended up being decimated by Nintendo. The PC Engine was released so early that I don't even think it should count as a 4th gen console. In a lot of ways, it's the most impressive console of its generation considering how unbelievably small it is and how early it came out.

I really wish the SNES utilized slightly better hardware since so many great games were hindered by awful slowdown. The SNES SHMUP library is a joke compared to the Genesis and PC Engine.

It was more Sega starting early to say they had a power advantage over the NES.

Mario 3 came out in 1988, same year as 2 in the states. We got everything late.

No one gave a shit about the Genesis until Sonic in 1991. By that point, the SNES was already out.
