Well, that was me. Every time something good happened to me, something bad was always waiting around the corner: karma. That's when I realized that I had to change.

So, I made a list of everything bad I've ever done, and one by one I'm gonna make up for all my mistakes.
I'm just trying to be a better person.

Dang. I was proud until I caught on it was a joke.

I feel most people move on to expecting something bad to happen always cause it is easier.
It is very hard to explain happiness and not taking life for granted to those people.

If you search for bad, you'll find it. Life is like the internet in that sense. You can almost always find something that agrees with your opinion.
That's the easy route though.

If you want more out of life, try a little to appreciate everything and you'll get much more out of it. Anytime something sucks, I just go back 50 or 100 years and realize how much better things are now.

Lots of ifs, but that's life. You get what you put into it. If it was easy, we'd be overpopulated and destroyed easily.

Even if it was, it doesn't work the way most Westerners mistakenly think of it working.

It's not a magical force that punishes bad behavior with immediate cosmic retribution. It's more a measure of personal enlightenment and understanding that influences your destiny in your next life.

If you go around punching old ladies for fun, karma isn't going to arrange events to drop an anvil on your head or have you trip over a branch and break your leg, or give you ultra-cancer. Karma would instead just reincarnate you as a toad or something after you die. Becoming a better person and fulfilling your place in the universe moves you up a few ranks, failing your obligations moves you back.

Life in a karmic system is basically just a game of chutes and ladders, where the only winning scenario is to eventually get so good you can jump off the board.

Fantastic show; deserved a real ending.

I try to keep a positive attitude and do good in life, because I believe it's important to be the change that you want to see in the world. The reality is that the world (and the internet, while we're at it) is kind of a craphole - but we shouldn't be fine with that. If we want more integrity, trust, rationality and compassion, it's up to each of us to provide it ourselves. Even if it doesn't have the kind of impact you'd like, at least you can hold your head up and say you tried.

And even the different South Asian religions don't all agree on exactly how it works, IIRC. Don't the Jains think of karma as really tiny particles that have to be detached from the body through ascetic practices?

I was gonna focus on quitting smoking.
But it turns out quitting smoking is stressful. And when I'm stressed out, I smoke.

That show...good stuff. It was awkward though cause my brother was in the hospitable shortly before earl's character and it really ate at my mom.
That was also when the show went down hill, so no big loss when I started to watch it less. Probably seen all the reruns at this point.

As a person who has done many many good things throughout his life and helped people constantly, yeah, karma does not exist.

Doesn't mean don't be good and help people though, we make our own universe. If everyone was good and cared, we would live in a utopia. The more of us that actually consider others and help, the better the world will be.

Karma might not exist, but good actions still make the universe better over all.
