Will this un-molest them? Does that make it okay to give the government the power to invade bodies?

You don't need a functioning penis or even a sex drive to molest someone. I doubt this would do much.

They should just be made to drink a bunch of whiskey. That way if they are later exonerated it can be reversed.

Like just now it took me 30 minutes to even get hard and when I finally finished I only had a semi. All this because I've been drinking too much whiskey lately.

Will it, though? it has been proven that PHYSICAL castration doesn't take away desires for rapists, because it's more of a psychological thing than sexual. If that's the case, I don't see why it should be any different for chemical castration.

Look, no sane person thinks these kinds of crimes are OK, but this law is disturbing. First, innocent people are put away all the time for crimes they didn't commit, and at least some of the people castrated under this new law are bound to be innocent. How many innocent people are worth sacrificing to appease public's righteous anger? Second, do you really want to start giving the government the legal ability to maim people convicted of crimes? Third, who is this going to help? Castration removes the ability to achieve an erection, but it doesn't take away desire, which I presume is the motivating factor behind crimes like these. Even if you could somehow never catch an innocent person and weren't worried about government overreach, I don't think this will help cut down on crime.

Last, it seems to be blatantly unconstitutional. There is a provision against cruel and unusual punishment. Not only is this unfair to potential innocents, cruel, and likely to be ineffective at deterring crime, it wastes the court's time having to strike it down, all so a bunch of politicians can virtue signal. Worse yet, this might actually be upheld by conservatives on the court and pave the way for US prisons to become even worse than they already are.

you do know what chemical castration is, right? it's not permanent and no one is getting maimed. it's literally a medication that is nullifies the libido. it's also reversible.

"Stealing is against the law."
"You know what's more against the law? Murder!"
"Okay, but stealing is still against the law."

That is to say, we all agree that child molesters are terrible people. We're just saying that this course of action happens to be a Constitution violation.

Really depends on whats used, as while the libido effect is reversible, it something like a progestin-based treatment if used on men it can have long term effects like a loss in bone density, and based on what Ive looked into that type of agent seems to be the most common agent used

Given that most child molesters who get sent to general population just end up getting beaten and repeatedly ass raped by other inmates, I'm not sure the "cruel and unusual" argument against castration really holds up.

The government is not the one handing out ass rapes as punishment.

The government is not the one handing out ass rapes as punishment.

The government created those situations by failing to insure inmates never have contact with one another.

So as far as I understand from reading some of the posts ITT, its a temporary thing and you need to continuously be on the pill for it to be effective?

How would that even work? Would they make the offender come and get checked periodically with some sort of blood test or whatever to determine if theyre keeping up their regiment?

One would assume it works like a probation officer.

Yes. I liked how hard he went with the "it must be a mistake. Let's try this..." angle and just kept making him look worse and worse while pretending to be trying to help him.

The quincenera one was my favorite though. Especially "what's this?" "That's exactly what it looks like..."
