80/80

Just ran out of paper, ended up having to reboot the whope stupid machine. Then I had to wrestle with my pdf viewer (it also blows my mind that pdf viewers are still as bad as they are) to figure out what page number to put in to tell it to start printing at, so I put in a buttload of paper to be safe and hey guess what, the printer still thinks it's empty.

And sure, it's a cheap printer but DAMN.

My industry uses top of the line printers. They mainly get pissed off at user error. You get people trying to use oddball paper sizes without thinking and itll bring things to a standstill.

My company doesnt even try: they just use a third party company to support printers.

OH YOU'RE OUT OF CYAN INK. GUESS YOU CAN'T PRINT ANYTHING AT ALL UNTIL YOU GET MORE CYAN INK. WANT TO PRINT IN JUST BLACK? NOPE.

That is the most annoying goddamn shit when you needed to print something important. They're scam artists of the highest caliber for sure.

I go to this electronics recycling (aka electronics graveyard) place sometimes to grab any PVM's and there's a large number of office printers as well as home printers in their warehouse where they sort out smaller electronics and yea it's sad that so many people just buy printers and ditch them once the ink runs out or they fail to sell it at the fifteenth yard sales they've had.

I installed a label printer manufactured in 2015 where you have to guess which serial COM port it's using while installing the driver, even though it's using USB

I did this a year ago and never looked back.

I remember the fateful day when I realized that the ink to refill my inkjet printer was going to cost more than a new printer.

Go laser.

Oh yeah laser all the way. Especially at home if you just print the occasional boarding pass or event ticket. Toner doesn't dry out.

I mean... when you think about it... it's like of course they still have problems.

In 2019, they're one of the few remaining pieces of IT equipment with moving parts. Not only that, we fill them with trees (paper) and shoot ink at high temperatures.

I learned a lot about printers from watching the repair techs that they called in. Most problems are with the fuser, though those error codes you mentioned can be really problematic, especially with HP.
