It depends. If it's a game I enjoy anyway I don't usually mind a bit of a grind or some obnoxious objectives. It's the online dependency that sometimes blocks my progress in terms of acquiring certain trophies, though.

Its not about the fun, its about the anti-fun experienced while the game is incomplete. Even finally completing it isnt fun, merely a release from the anti-fun.

This isn't a real thing. This is just not wanting to deal with controlling minor compulsions.

I always start out with the desire the beat the game. Then as I start playing it I want to complete the game. Then when I get near the end and discover that to get from 98% to 100% you need to collect 348 squabblekwauts or whatever hidden across the map, I put the game away and never play it again.

Same goes for if there's an insanely hard optional boss that requires you to spend longer than you spent playing the entire game to prepare for his fight. Honestly, fuck that.

Wat

OCD sucks.

If you enjoy the game or not, not having all the trophies or whatever eats at you making you have to finish collecting them only to start all over again on the next thing you play.

It's kind of why I don't game much anymore. It's not that I want to 100%. I want to be able to reach all mechanics and powers and everything and having that locked behind dozens of hours of grinding or microtransactions is not fun anymore.

Completing the game is part of the fun. When I played Gran Turismo and Crash games back in the day it was fun grinding to get licenses or figuring out new paths to 100% the game. It would suck if the only way to unlock a path was to download DLC or whatever.

Yeah, but only if the grind itself is fun. Imagine not enjoying a game but still playing it for 500 hours.

Ive been trying to get away from 1000/1000 or platinums for the last few months as I find ive been following a walkthrough guide for 1st runs and then ignoring what is actually happening in the game. I recently finished Call of Cthulu and got 610/1000 achievements without following a guide and realized i had no desire to go back and get the rest.

Ubisoft games are a problem for me, especially the old Assassins Creed games with their 100s of collectible chests/feathers/medals.

This.

I specifically remember poeple complaining about having to get 900 koroks in BotW. Uh... no you don't, you only even need half of them to fully upgrade your capacity, and even with fewer than that you'll be fine.

I honestly wish I was MORE completionist, but I have moderate ADHD and my enthusiasm for things goes from 106% to 3% basically overnight. I'll play four hours a day for 13 days straight and then wake up the next day and want nothing to do with it.

It's like how your libido drops off a cliff when you finish some regularly scheduled maintenance and you're just looking at the midgets on screen like, "Why was I even interested in this 30 seconds ago? Who am I?"

So i have a ton of awesome games that I never even finish the story mode for and probably never will.

With that said I have properly 100% two games in my life: Crash Bandicoot Warped and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I have OCD but it had almost never manifested as a need to play a game to 100%.

Merely looking at something like skip rope 1000 times or get a perfect in this impossible mini game you dont even like doing the first time makes me nope the fuck out.

But yeah, sympathy for the people who do like completing games 100% because the design for the extra content these days just gets stupider and stupider lol

Yeah this.

When I was younger, completing games 100% was definitely a point of pride (not to mention, something I actually had time for). I remember getting fed up with that notion when I bought Smash bros on WII and saw just how much there was to unlock and for the first time was like "ugh... I just don't care anymore".

The last game I actually fully completed was resi4 on steam, achievements and all... but that was the first game in yeaaaaaars. I'll still go back and 100% some old SNES games I used to play as a kid just because I know them like the back of my hand, but modern titles? nah.
