History was a perfect storm of everything I'm bad at. The textbooks were so dry I could read a paragraph six or seven times and have no clue what it said. I couldn't write fast enough to take decent notes in class either, and probably worst of all, the teaching methodology was just comletely backwards from how I learn best. First they give you the infromation, then they test you on it. I always learned best by coming across a problem and finding the solution. Plus it didn't even have like grammar rules or anything that you could just plug'n'chug, which saved my butt in so many English classes.

In college? Set theory and probability

As for why, it's just hard and I'm not really a math guy

Edit: I also did badly on "the life of a college student on set"

Math. Not because it was difficult, but because it was mind-numbingly boring. I didn't do my work because it was a waste of time. I'll never understand how people can like the plug'n'chug life

The only class that I ever really had any actual trouble with in my entire academic career (from grade school through grad school) was a Business Ethics / Law class. There was just way too much material and things to remember, topped off by it being an extremely boring class.

IT. The teacher was pretty useless. Nothing the class could really do about it, I suppose. Thankfully, it was one of just four subjects I took at college, and I did well in the others.

It's really not even plug and chug in the lower levels. If you actually try to comprehend it, it is useful throughout your life. Particularly the math you learn up to and through Pre-Algebra, which for most people in the U.S. is through 7th grade.

The stuff after that, chances are you aren't going to be using it unless you work in particular fields, however, I still think it's important to learn it just so it can help you solidify the stuff you learn through Pre-Algebra, if nothing else.

Side story to that English class was that we had only 2 homework assignments per semester. Book reports. American authors. He told us on day 1 when they were due. One half way through the semester the other a week before the end of the semester. You could turn them in as late as you wanted up until like 2 days before the end. Youd lose points for being late. But he said better late than never, better never late. If you missed 1, instant fail. He said this from the first day of school all the way to the last week.

Last day of school. He started reading out our grades. This one girl: F.

WHAT THE f***!?
You didnt turn in your last book report.
SO f***ING WHAT I HAD As ON EVERY f***ING THING ELSE!
I told you on day one, and repeated many times, a single book report not turned in is a failing grade.
f*** YOU YOU f***ING a******.
Its not my fault you didnt turn it in.

She stormed out of the room and slammed the door. He didnt even try to stop her. She was up for valedictorian. She had to take a summer class. Lol

Dang. Reminds me of a story from college. Less intense, but it has always stuck with me.

There was this dude who was like 40 or so and thought he was above everyone because of it. And yeah, he was smart and all but came across as an ass a lot of the time.

After class one day, my friend and I both had to talk to the prof about stuff and this dude was pitching a fit arguing with the professor about his grade on an assignment. Now this was one of my favorite profs ever to begin with but this was the day that really sealed it.

He's calmly and matter-of-factly explaining why he graded it the way he did in response to this guy arguing with him. This went on for several minutes.

"I don't see why you would count off two points for this!" My friend and I both just looked at each other and did the two fingers motion, like what's the big deal. In fairness, the assignment was graded out of 5 but it still just seemed super petty. I noticed the prof saw our reaction out of the corner of his eye.

This dude shouts out "Isn't the point of the assignment to learn [insert concept here]?" The prof just calmly answers "The point of the assignment is the completed project."

So the dude storms off and heads out the door. The prof turns to us, still just as professional but stifling a smile (lol) and we talk to him about whatever it was.

I still think back to that line about the completed project all the time. It was a real paradigm shift for me.

Math.

Anything above the civil stuff is useless unless you want to get into a profession that requires it.

I mean does anyone actually use integers or quantum nonsense when buying rations, beer or cigarettes ?

All I do is just round the price off so I know I can't spend more than what I'm folding.

I hate writing.

Mostly because I have shit hand writing.

Hell I can barely sigh my name and it be readable.

Rarely ever sign it and it would look the same twice.

Back around 2000 I started using stuff like Notepad and print it if I wanted to send a letter to friends and family or someone back home.

Some people asked if I've gone crazy or was trying to be a big shot sending fancy inscripted letters.

Math and Spanish

I hated Math but Spanish just killed me, I would have to literally study for hours just to get a C

Sometimes I was okay at math but I just didn't care for it.

I was heavily tutored in both subjects and it really cut into my free time.
