But straws/plastic bags are taboo, and things are moving farther in that direction

Man in his natural state is a polluter who harms the environment.

Only through rigorous training in doctrine can he make amends for the damage of his fathers and be considered good himself via reducing his carbon imprint.

I owe you one, this was basically what I think, said much more articulate

Uhhh.... N-no? They are, at best, vaguely analagous because both are issues of persistence that transcend generations of humanity. The difference is, the nature of original sin is some abstract concept that defies our idea of ethics by inheriting blame through heredity, which is essentially a means of entrapping worshippers into the sin-repent cycle of Christianity to build a faith-based dependence through guilt and shame. It is by definition infinite and inescapable.

Environmentalism is the results of previous and current humans behavior that creates an actual physical problem that needs to be addressed. The problems are definable and observable and the results of actions taken to combat it can be observed and recorded. If Environmentalism is successful then we will no longer need to take extraordinary actions to combat environmental degradation--It is by nature finite and solvable. Environmentalism is, in this way, no different than any other human problem beyond the nebulous definitions of it's elapsed timeframe.

I don't care about any of that. Straws are not necessary for adults and I don't care what material the bag is made of. If it has handles, it is acceptable. If not, it isn't.
