i'm playing through DKCR right now and it's a lot of fun and i'm just looking for some perspective of how it compares to the rest of the series.

i loved DKC and DKC2 but it's been like over 10 years since i played them so i don't remember much other than that i did love them at one point.

3>2>1>TF>R

DKC3 is my personal favorite although the entire original trilogy is still to this day an absolute masterpiece. An trilogy port would sell me any system I dont even care.

The bottom two are good. TF and DKC3 are superb. DKC2 is probably the best platformer ever made.

i've never actually played 3 because by the time i got through playing 1 and 2, i was so put off by the idea of having to play as Chunky Kong that i never picked it up

It's been so long, I can hardly remember much about the original trilogy besides the music. I never played DKCR or TF. I should probably get on that.

DKC2 is the best game ever made. DKC1, 3, and TF are great. Never played much of Returns.

Tropical Freeze is the GOAT platformer and one of my favorite games of all time. DKC 2 was the GOAT platformer before it came along. The last three are all stellar and basically all equal in my book. Ask me on another day and I might switch that order, though 1 is easily the weakest level design wise. But I also vastly prefer it atmospherically to something like 3 and probably to Returns as well.

Chunky Kong is a character in DK64. You're thinking of Kiddy Kong who is objectively far worse than Chunky and the greatest abomination in the Donkey Kong franchise

well i've never played DK64 either and don't really have a desire to but to take away DK AND Diddy and giving that second slot to the goofiest looking monkey didn't do much for my interest at the time even if it did have Dixie who was the best

1 nails at how it approaches difficulty with it being predicated on level design (as opposed to 2 being enemy placement and 3 on level-based mechanics)

2 nails at atmosphere across all levels

3 nails at keeping things fresh and exciting

TF and R are definitely not as good, but they are still great in their own right.

The first three are so great and I don't think the newer two measure up but TF came close. Returns's controls were too annoying for me to enjoy it.

I prefer 1's atmosphere over 3. DKC3 has a weird vibe to it. DKC1 is so quiet and chill.

Classic trilogy is great. Returns is awful. Haven't played Tropical Freeze yet.
