To be fair, a 2 or 3 hour speedrun can be really hard on your mind. The intense concentration, for an extended period, plus worrying about screwing up, or not beating your time, etc. is tough. But when you're playing a *really* long game, and even after becoming very good at it, you're still taking more than 5 hours to complete the speedrun...well, that's hard going.

Insights into this? Any way you take the pressure off?

I mean... I care about speed runs to an extent. I started watching all the summoning salt videos, and recently fallowed up by watching the ultra-nightmare WR for doom 2016.

Practice and just trying to have fun with it is the best bet to make it less taxing.

I want to do writing but I get nervous af, but a lot of that goes away when I remember the quote 'the first draft of anything is shit'

As long as you approach it as not a big deal, even if you know you do care, it's going to be more manageable.

Even once you get really, really good, I think SMG 1 and Rayman: Origins are. I hear DK64 as well (although this shouldn't come as a galloping shock).

Are you talking about 100% speed runs or anytime runs? DK64 can be completed in under an hour these days I think.

For Galaxy 1 and DK64, I meant 100%, but for Rayman: Legends, I meant getting all 700 Teensies. Fuck knows how long it would take to speedrun the ENTIRE game. 20 hours, 25 hours, 30 hours?

Also, I suspect even just beating DK64 would take a few hours, assuming you don't use glitches.

Why anyone would speed run that game is beyond me. It's so slow paced, and the with the battles being sort of luck based as far as the combos, it's unbelievable. No wonder it takes so long.

I like watching speedruns sometimes but I don't really get the appeal of actually doing them. You miss most of the content that way.
