It isn't awful but it isn't good. It just doesn't have any real oomph and without knowing the comic plot, I find it hard to believe it even sticks anywhere close to it.

So I guess no. Wait for it to hit Netflix or whatever

I haven't seen it but on paper it seems it's like, impossible for it to be good. The story just doesn't work with no build. They just want to throw Dark Phoenix out there without putting any of the character work in to make the story actually click.

It would be like if we showed Captain America Civil War as the second MCU movie after Iron Man 1.

The comic involves a space god thing that eats stars possessing Jean Grey. Then aliens come to kill her to stop the space god. Also the Hellfire club turns her evil.

I feel confident in saying it doesnt follow at all.

Well this is the rough plot

Some sort of cosmic force in space possess Jean Grey. She finds out Prof X lied to her about her childhood and gets pissy. Jean Grey kinda bumbles around several places whilst being moderately angry/not able to control the power but then not really and wanting to stop the power. X-men try follow her. Vuk and the D'bari race (which I legit had to google as I don't think the movie even told me who they were/names) try to befriend Jean and promise to control the power for her. Eventually they try take the power from her. Massive fight between X-men and Vuk/D'bari before Jean Grey fucks them up and explodes herself/Vuk in space. Oh and I guess there's the underlying plot of the X-men questioning Prof X and how he has been running things all these years

Oh and Vuk is a woman in the film. When I googled who Vuk was, comic lore seemed to suggest Vuk is a man?

Well yeah DC movies rushing is their formula, but Justice League is at least more broad. In theory you can make a story there that doesn't need attachment to the characters to work. For example I think The Avengers works alright without having seen any of the origin movies before. Having seen the origins enhances but isn't strictly necessary cause the movie gives each character a brief intro and paces adding them well, and it's not a highly character driven plot.

Civil War though if you aren't attached to any of the component characters really loses a lot. Much like Dark Phoenix. The dynamic of how the characters interact and caring about what happens to the characters is very necessary. If they're actually telling the story of Dark Phoenix and not fanfiction loosely related to it, anyway.

Wow, that was actually pretty good. Although I kind of think it didn't even need the whole space alien subplot. Movie was doing fine on its own as the Assassination of the X-Men by the Coward Charles Xavier
