Well this interview from years ago is interesting:

What about Game Of Thrones?
Hidetaka Miyazaki: "I really love it. Ive always been such a huge fan of George R.R. Martin that it overwhelms me. His approach to fantasy is kind of like the Romance Of Three Kingdoms, the Chinese historical-political drama, which Im a fan of as well. The political elements are a lot of fun, and the drama is done really well too."
Ryan Morris (Dark Souls translator): "He bought the Game Of Thrones Blu-ray in Vegas! The TV drama hasnt been translated to Japanese yet."

Political drama is obviously harder to pull off in a game, as its less action-orientated.
Miyazaki: "There are different types of fantasy, ones that are better told in games and others that would be better in a drama. That political human drama the relationships between people and stuff is better suited to a book. I dont think it would be possible to tell that story with a game, or at least I wouldnt want to attempt it."

It looks like BotW mixed with dark souls
it didn't look dreary at all, looked like a map with time based elements and some form of multiplayer matchmaking

Yeah looks like a happier Dark Souls basically. GRRM should liven it up a bit. Really looking forward to it.
