Basically they took down the memorial flag and flew the gay pride flag in its place. After people raised a big stink about it, officials placed another ring on the state flag pole so they could still fly the pride flag and put the memorial flag back on the middle pole.

Shouldve never been allowed to happen in the first place. If they wanted to fly another flag they should have fixed the poles to do so beforehand rather than replace a memorial. Good on the people calling out their bullshit.

I don't see the problem with it.

LGBT people have been beaten, murdered, and kidnapped for centuries now. One month of flying their flag doesn't detract from MIA/POW victims and their families.

are you a regular reader of bethesda magazine or did you come across a link to it on a far-right forum dedicated to searching for things to be angry about? bethesda magazine does not have a broad out-of-state readership.

i live here and there was not a fight over it. dumb thing was done, people noticed and complained, it was corrected, we moved on.

there were not protests or any sort of prolonged furor

As of Tuesday morning, Council member Evan Glass said another ring had been added to the right flagpole, and the Pride flag was flying below the Maryland flag, with the military flag returned to its original position.

so the duration of their mistakes was <24 hours.

yet you felt compelled to describe the public reaction as 'a big stink'. why did you do that?

One honors soldiers who never came home after being forced to fight a war many disagreed with. The other honors sexual preference. Pretty sure that rainbow flag doesnt carry enough weight to replace a war memorial.

I have no issue with the current arrangements. I took issue that the memorial was taken down to begin with like people wouldnt mind.

It was also on NBC, where I first got wind of this. NBC described it as a public outcry of disapproval as well. And when local governments make quick fixes its usually because there was a big disapproval from the people. Stop being so dense.

I didn't know people actually watched local news. their coverage also doesn't suggest a 'public outcry of disapproval' either.
