Admittedly, the old Dark Queen design isn't exactly "iconic" but at least it had *some* thought and effort put into it (even if those thoughts and efforts were entirely perverted).

The new design though? There's friggin' 12 year olds on DeviantArt that could draw better than that.

I don't think that's really true in video games, especially for female characters. But Battletoads specifically was a send-up of the late 80s action hero/early 90s 'tude era so that was the whole point anyway.

Of course it was. That's what they were going for. The Dark Queen was noting more than a futuristic space queen from one of those cheesey 50's/60's Sci-Fi B-movies.

Um...Dark Queen was never really sexy. She was more Heavy Metal 2000-ish where they just grabbed an Elvira lookalike and then gave her huge boobs and oddly masculine features. No really...look at the rigid jawline and muscle tone. That's a male face mixed with a bodybuilder, a vampire, and a Barbie Doll combined. Her design was always very hodgepodge.

EDIT: I feel like I should give a better visual comparison to what I mean.

Just because you put boobs on the model doesn't make the face feminine. And this was a huge problem in 80's/90's/00's culture in general. Their idea of sex appeal was just throwing very masculine traits on a pair of big breasts. It's kinda funny when you think about it. "male culture" found "testosterone facial traits" more sexually appealing than estrogen traits.

Then Kitana's MK11 redesign fixed all that.
