I helped my buddy move this weekend. Getting his stuff out of his roommates house wasnt too bad... but he moved into 3rd floor apartment. King sized bed, couch, dresser, entertainment center, etc.

Probably 15 trips up and down 3 flights of stairs. Stuffy, hot ass stairway, with no elevator.

So after were done, the friend we were helping suggested we go get dinner. Im under the assumption he is buying us food.

We get there, he orders his shit, and asks for separate checks lmao. Thankfully my other friend spoke up, and and he ended up buying us food.

But seriously spent 3 hours helping you, and you cant spend $40 on dinner. Damn bruh

Right?! Like we smoked before, but all our own stuff.

He could of at least offered that, if he wasnt planning on paying for dinner

If he suggested that you would eat afterwards, then it is expected that he pays for what you eat as a thank you.

Eh maybe. I mean we arent even 30 yet, I dont expect him to hire movers.

Plus pizza and beer is way cheaper than movers would be.

Yeah originally I was just going to head straight home after we were done, until he mentioned going out for dinner after.

Pay plus dinner
Or dinner

Last time I had a friend help, i paid for both labor and dinner. Anything less than dinner is cluelessness.

i dont think he consciously took advantage

hes probably unaware of the custom of treating someone as a thank you to pizza or beer or something after helping out

doesnt even need to be money since there tight friends

i think the guy is a bit aloof

This. Beer at the bare minimum, but ffs if he mentions dinner, that's a proper assumption.

If you know him that well and for that long, it was probably just an honest mistake. You said it took three hours? Maybe he was just tired and it slipped his mind.

Was that the first time you or anyone helped him move? As common sense as it is, he may not yet have understood the etiquette until reminded of it.

Its possible that he was tired/exhausted, and it just slipped his mind.

However when our other friend mentioned he should buy us dinner, the guy that was moving kinda gave him a death glare. But then probably thought about the situation, and accepted begrudgingly.

Weve all helped each other move before, and SOMETHING has always been provided

Yeah I mean moving sucks, but $20-30 in pizza/beer goes a very long way in terms of gratitude and keeping everyone happy.

Oh well, he said he would probably hire movers next time

Was moving etiquette ever taught, or is just common sense? I never really ever looked it up, but always knew that if you ask your friends or family to assist in moving, you pay for food/drinks after.

Free water regardless.

Anyone who won't let a guest in their house have some water is a total bitch.
