That's the thing about conservatives almost anywhere. They'll compromise almost anything, close ranks to any perceived threat, in order to win. The progressives, meanwhile? Compromise is a dirty word, and they can't *wait* to attack each other over any perceived impurity. I tried to explain to my parents that "they're all the same" is exactly what the conservatives want. They lie, and when the other side calls them out, they want it to seem like "they're just arguing". So they keep lying, so the other side looks like hysterical reactionaries. Not everyone sits on Twitter to listen to the nuance in every argument, for instance. My parents certainly don't. I think I convinced them, in the end, but the polls say Alberta is headed back to conservative control. The idea their tactics work wonderfully makes me... very sad. Part of me wishes us progressives could learn a few lessons on compromise. I have this sinking feeling, however, that, as a group, we just won't. Maybe not until it's far too late. I know that's heresy talk, of course. It's all or nothing, in liberal circles, which may end up meaning... nothing. I guess I just hate the idea that my beloved Canada is as vulnerable to this thinking as any other country. Someone forwarded me a new article today, and I made the mistake of reading it and now I'm just kind of depressed and want to go back to bed for a couple of days. Last night a dear friend cheered me up by bringing wine and Korean fried chicken, while we watched Killing Eve and American Gods. It was good. It worked. ~ David Gaider. Maybe in the UK, but in the US too many progressives are so complicit with capitalism that they'll compromise to keep their status of privilege. Conservatives, while shitty, at least stand by and commit to their ideals instead of teasing "progressive" ideals but meet halfway to keep their own status quo

Religions usually say you cannot compromise because that would be violating God's perfect absolute will and authority.
You cannot be wrong since God has made you right. This also means anyone in disagreement is wrong. --- "Even if that's not the case, I would prefer this bill fail, since I'd rather see a Democrat get this win instead" - Doom_Art ... Copied to Clipboard!

DevsBro posted...I mean, if you don't compromise when you vote, you probably have no business voting. For officials, I mean. Suppose there are ten important issues. If you have convictions, odds are you don't agree with either candidate on all ten, which means compromising. If you don't, you picked your candidate with garbage reasoning like what party they are running for, their demographic, etc, and you really have no business voting. --- 53 LIII 0b110101 p16 0x35 ...
