The 4's just started to ship. They come in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB Ram models. The 4's are twice as powerful than the 3B+. That says alot. the 1GB model is $35 whereas the 4GB is $55. You just need to switch your cables or get adapters for them for USB C and Micro HDMI.

Sadly, they aren't on Amazon yet but you can find them on Element14, which I use all the time for my pi needs.

I just put my order in for the 4GB model.

oh man, I wonder how much better emulation compatibility is gonna be with the new Pi 4. Didn't know it was out yet

It's a tiny super cheap PC board pretty much. Many different uses, but one of the more common ones I personally hear about is using it for emulation.

What they need to do is advance the Zero.

There are tons of potential applications for its form factor and no reason (I can think of) to not have a faster CPU.

I love the 3 but those ethernet ports are bulky af.

yeah I agree, actually

there are already things that fill the 'better than the pi' niche for game emulation, they just have much less user support

I made one as a project in college. It ran on Android, as RPi wasn't popular, if it was even around.

We put buttons on the side.

Just hack a SNES Classic. Its the same price when you count a case and joypads and stuff, but its ten times easier and good looking.

Supposedly PS1 Classics are cheap and pretty decent after hacking as well.

I'm actually building one of those DS-inspired folding mini PCs using a 3. My own design. 5" touchscreen, bluetooth-only audio, mini keyboard, external USB and card readers, and--supposing I can get them to work--low battery LED and programmable shoulder buttons.

I bought a pair of replacement GBA SP hinge axles which I'm hoping will handle the folding.

Right now, the holdup is that I want to make my own USB cables to save as much space as I can, but the leads on a micro USB jack are incredibly close together. So basically I've been putting it off because I'm scared to try soldering them lol.

are you getting good speeds on N64? Most titles are unplayable for me, but I haven't overclocked my pi or done anything else to optimize the emulation

Theres like a dozen good N64 games; half you've played a thousand times already and the other half are Rare games.

And actually the SNES Classic can play PS1 games better than the default setup of the PS1 Classic. It takes some extra work though.

I just put my order in for the 4GB model.

Do you know if I could just take my SD card out of my 3 and stick it in one of these and still have my OS and everything work? Using Raspbian, if that matters
