Is it ever explained why there are only crimson heads in the first resident evil (REmake)?

Im playing through Resident Evil 0 right now and I notice there are no crimson heads to be found.

Is it explained in some part of the lore that I missed?

Im assuming its just a different strain of virus only used in that particular lab. But I dunno. Thats just assumption

I honestly never thought about that. Zero even came out after REmake so you'd think there was some talk about it, but I guess Crimsons were unique to REmake since it was an overhaul of the game.

It's a mutated strain of the T-Virus first seen in the CH that was sealed away in the coffin in the graveyard, near where the cabin that Lisa dwells in is located. It was extracted from the prototype CH before sealing it away and worked on exclusively at the Arklay Lab.

Also the same virus that is responsible for Lickers.

Seems like a missed opportunity in the RE2 remake. It couldve had the zombies transform slowly
