So I've been wanting a Nintendo Switch for a while, but had other priorities ahead of that, like rent, utilities, gas, etc. But I have just learned that my boyfriend has been saving a little bit of his paycheck every month to get me one and finally has enough to buy me a Switch. A little luck in the lottery helped speed it up, too. So I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on an impulse because I like to think clearly about things before I make a big decision like this. With all that in mind... Should I go ahead and get the Switch he saved up for?

I just got one last week after being in a fairly similar situation. I'm really enjoying it so far, but it's definitely a challenge to adjust my budget for all the games I want to get. It's nice to be able to play even if it's just 20 minutes during my lunch break.

It sounds like you are not very financially stable, if it is taking months to save up for something like a Switch. So don't do it.

Well, he did save up the money for that sole purpose, it's not like you'd be spending money you had planned to use on bills or something and decided to buy a console instead.
Maybe look at used ones? (and make sure you don't get screwed over for buying used, like the console serial being locked into someone else's account and whatnot)

The Switch is worth it just for Mario Odyssey and BOTW and BOTW is coming out with a sequel. I vote yes.

As a secondary console, sure. Portability isn't worth the switch tax and performance drop. They hold their value well enough at this point. Chances are if your bored of it in 6 months you can get 200+ selling it online

Perfect time to jump in. Just don't expect most of the (non-exclusive) big games of the year to come to the platform. For that you would need a PC or PS4.

Because it's his and he plays it constantly. He's playing right now. It's not like he doesn't like sharing, but it'd be nice to play mine whenever I wanted.

Because it's his and he plays it constantly. He's playing right now. It's not like he doesn't like sharing, but it'd be nice to play mine whenever I wanted.

Oh yeah good point, especially if it's single player games. Makes sense.

Idk dude. I remember I bought my GF of 4 years a Disney Pass and a month later we broke up. Relationships are never 100% and those big ticket sacrifices only add to the sting

I don't think that's something people really dwell on unless the relationship went extremely sour.

I guess I was just saying, you never know so be careful about how much you put into a relationship. In retrospect that is a pretty bitter point of view to have so I digress.

I almost impulse bought a Switch today, but managed to resist....

I got the Switch to play Xenoverse 2 at first. Then got Lets go Pikachu (a mistake), Smash Ultimate and BotW and Mario Kart 8.

Its good for a lot of first party games and with all the inevitable ports and BotW 2 coming out Id say get it. If youre stable enough to. Otherwise dont. Amass wealth.
