OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A former Buffalo Wild Wings employee claims that their managers allowed employees to discriminate against black customers.

Gary Lovelace reportedly worked as a cook at the Overland Park, Kan., location for 12 years before being fired in October 2017. He claims that his troubles began when a new general manager was hired in late 2016 or early 2017.

Now, hes suing Buffalo Wild Wings and their parent company, Inspire Brands, for creating a racially hostile work environment, The Kansas City Star reports. According to the suit, managers at the restaurant made derogatory comments about African-American customers. They also reportedly allowed employees to refuse service to these customers.

Lovelaces lawyer, Gerald Gray, claims that their reasoning was blacks dont give good tips, The Kansas City Star reports.

The suit also alleges that Lovelace was once referred to as the angry black man, and that he was also discriminated against because of his age and disability.

A spokesperson for Buffalo Wild Wings supplied Fox News with the following statement: While we do not comment on pending litigation specifically, we take the allegations very seriously and are conducting an internal investigation. Buffalo Wild Wings values an inclusive environment and we have no tolerance for discrimination of any kind.

In response to the story, someone claiming to be a former employee backed up certain elements of Lovelaces claims. In a Facebook post where she describes him as a sweet and kind man, the social media user claims that the restaurant was not an accepting environment to all races. According to the post, "The victim here is a sweet and kind man, who always brightened up the shift and it hurts my heart that he was discriminated against by the staff who should have been supporting him."

I worked in a steakhouse where the servers did this shit lol.

Theyd come right up to the host stand and be like dont give me these people or sit me with them.

Of course I dont get paid enough to deal with that (as a host its much simpler to just stick to the game plan) and id always have some excuse when they got seated with a group they didnt like lol.

Even the Black servers didnt want Black families though, which is whatever. >_>

servers "fears" are validated, thus keeping the cycle going

Its funny. I waited tables after college and BY far I was stiffed by self entitled dudebros who bitched because they had to wait 5 minutes on Coors light or some shit.

from what I understand of the research literature, the racial tipping gap is pretty well-established and, interestingly, is perceived by black servers as well as white servers. black customers also tip white servers better than black servers, iirc. much of the tipping gap goes away if you just post noticeable information about what the expected tip is, though.

Well, besides any societally ingrained habits upon demographics, I truly think location has a lot to do with it too.

I did pizza delivery in one state and Hispanics were by far the worst offenders on tipping. But in another state that wasnt the case. (And even then, our delivery area was one or two zip codes)

As for Black customers, it was only in the steakhouse i worked at in Maryland where that was an issue. The manager even took the server staff to task one day over it.

I worked at another restaurant in Delaware and there may have been some stigma around Black tippers, but it wasnt nearly as pronounced. But Gypsie guests got shit on by the entire restaurant when they were out of earshot.

Point is trying to point at race as a sole determining factor in your likeliness to get tipped is dumb. Do your job lol

Hell the best server I ever had I tipped him $30 on a $50
