So, I could watch Black and Cesaro fight all day. I was only able to see like 2-3 minutes of the SD match on Youtube, but JESUS. The people able to watch Extreme Rules probably got a hell of a match.

Black is such an enigma for me because he has so many things I should like about him but... I just don't quite connect with him. Like the match with Cesaro is was good but really oddly booked. Like how babyface is it to just repeatedly target a body part?

I honesty think he would benefit from a heel turn.

Like Black was king of the 4 star match in NXT. He'd have a 4 star match with Andrade, which was good... until you realize Andrade just had a 5 star match with Gargano the NXT Takeover before. Had a 4 star match with Adam Cole, which sounds nice until you realize Adam Cole is having 4.5+ star matches left and right with everyone else. His Takeover match with Ciampa was good. Right in that 4 star range. But that was coming off Ciampa/Dream the previous Takeover which was a better match. And, of course, all of Ciampa's great matches with Gargano.

I'm not shitting on Black, he's got a great look, great music, great entrance. He's a good wrestler. I'm just waiting for him to elevate to great.

At this point, being a 5 star wrestler ISN"T what WWE needs. They need people booked consistently, regardless of their in-ring talent. If Black just kicks people's heads off every week and then runs up the card (until a suitable opponent beats him), fine.

I still think WWE would benefit from decreasing its roster size. I forget what the number of superstars is (200/300?), it's no wonder the glut of talent (20-30, maybe even 50 people are main event caliber, or at least good enough no one would bat an eye). But 50 people should be THE roster size in general. I mean, we already know people like Ziggler are just spinning their wheels, collecting a paycheck. I don't think anyone buys him as anyone doing anything in any feud. Drew practically dragged him to career "revival" of sorts kicking and screaming last year, only for Extreme Rules to go by and be like, "Yep, he's done."

At most, 6-10 people for Top 3 feuds of any given show, tag and women's divisions, and bells and whistles. I can't fathom why WWE has people like Balor, Nakamura, and Rusev on pre-shows, just because they aren't "Vince's favorite toy" at the moment. I'm starting to think Punk was right about the whole "cog on a wheel" thing. Outside of very rare cases, I couldn't tell you what makes Andrade different than Cesaro, aside from appearance and having a manager.

I think my main point is it is very hard to establish anyone if you have the WWE machine say "Roman, Brock, and Seth here, everyone else can fuck right off." If everyone feels exactly the same, fills the exact same air time, I couldn't be bothered having 50 5-star wrestlers doing the same stupid spot if they just won't be allowed to cycle INTO that spot. Kofi dragged into the main event by dumb luck still shocks me. But Samoa Joe? He's Dolph Ziggler at this point, if not worse.

"Yay, he beat Finn last night." Probably won't mean anything. Let them go somewhere else. WWE looks bad having talent loafing around backstage just as bad as if they are jobbing to Cedric Alexander for the lolz like Drew was last night. At least if you have LESS people to choose from, you'd be more apt to go, "Hmm...maybe we shouldn't treat 90% of our roster like shit" like they do now.

I feel like I'm mixing two different issues together. So many things bleed into each other. Maybe I'm really just waiting for AEW at this point...

Yeah this is basically the right call though you're still being too WWE centric.

You cannot be a great wrestler and be on WWE television and it's really that simple.

You can be pretty good like...Daniel Bryan or for some reason Kofi Kingston but there's a ceiling and that ceiling is the fact that they work for the WWE.

Like you sit in here bitching about Rollins and Reigns and Lesnar.

But the fact is even if you DID have Gargano and Cole and Joe in those roles, the show WOULD still suck and they would start to suck because the reasons the show sucks has nothing to do with the talent and the talent gets tainted for being associated with it.

It has to do with this being the WWE. Anything good or interesting they will take and ruin.

Any other discussion of how good someone is is pointless. Of course they're good. Theyre just in the WWE so who cares.

Nobody matters in WWE. And if they start to matter, WWE either cuts the legs out from them on purpose or by accident.

And I sincerely doubt Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff are going to be able to do anything about that.

WWE match style is part of it too, not just the booking and presentation

Like even if WWE got like... Okada or something, Okada going through a flowchart of his signature moves is gonna be hamstrung too. Some guys can do it and maybe Okada would be one-- I think AJ Styles has generally been pretty good at making most of his matches not feel like a formula for example, but most wrestlers, even very good ones like Daniel Bryan end up with most of their matches feeling like going through the motions. Doesn't mean they can't have the rare great match but it's much more rare than it should be.

Oh, the multiman matches are worse now too because all of the new guys have the smallest number of spots.

So when Corbin gets to go wild and do stuff, he has like one or two moves. And when it's Roman, he just hits infinity Superman Punches.

So many of the guys have the dirt worst movesets. I watched Elias and Corbin for years and I struggle to name more than two moves for either guy. Only the indy guys can force a decent match out of these shows, and then they get rewarded by never being pushed and elevating these boring dudes.

It's absolute nonsense.
