Woke up this morning to see a flat tire and an obscene amount of something (probably oil) on the garage floor. I've got an '01 Acura that needs fixing every season so I think it's time to move on. Buying at the end of the month is generally the best time to buy, and this truecar stuff looks pretty handy. Looking at Honda's, but making this decision quick is kinda a bummer.

Grant me your energy CE

Truecar?

its just a way to let a bunch of dealers know you looking for a car so they can bug the shit out of you.

Yeah, I've gotten e-mails from dealerships pretty quick, but it gives me a number to start with and I can see some of their "add-on's" right away.

For example, one dealership wants to charge me $149 for splash guards, $129 for a rear trunk tray, and $155 for floor mats. I could easily negotiate that crap out, but I feel like they'll try to fuck me over in some other price column so I won't even bother with this particular dealership.

I'll give them a look, thanks

Day 2, looking at Civic LX CRV

The first offer from the second dealership beat out the third offer from the dealership yesterday.

It pays to shop around.

If you want to buy used, also look into CarMax and Carvana.

It's near the end of the month. Send dealers their competitors offers and have them get into a bidding war for your business. Just roll with whoever is willing to drop their pants the furthest.

Just don't let finance make up for the front end loss with tons of warranties. Stick with gap if you're financing.

It's also the end of Q2 on the financial calendar

;)

We skipped on warranties too.

Better yet, cut out the finance department and get a bank/CU loan

Just make sure you keep that info in the pocket. If they don't think they can make up money on the back end they may be less receptive to provide a deep initial discount.

Good info. Fear of getting screwed in a dealership has kept me from ever going but I might have to someday.

Let's do a recap, go end of the month (I've heard mixed info on whether time of year matters, but Fall or the beginning of the year is what I've read), finance it yourself or through a loan, don't get up sold or talk to their finance department.

I wish, but it's too late to get a bank loan because I was told it would take at least 3 business days to process. We finance'd with the dealer (yuck) but we're dropping a 50% down payment and want to pay it off much faster before the 36 month term ends

Last week of the year is the absolute best time. If you wait till new year's day, you waited too long. That's what my research has said.

3.9

We could have taken a 2.9 for a higher price tag, but the difference in OTD and monthly cost's brought us down far enough to where we took the higher rate. We can pay the car off in it's entirety after 3 months with no penalty, and that's what we're aiming for.
