Joe got absolutely bodied. What a disaster lol.
So the winners tonight were: Kamala - showed some real snarl, very aggressive and compelling Buttigieg - definitely the most polished speaker on the stage, you could barely notice that most of his answers had zero substance Gillibrand - did a great job of interjecting as much as possible, and did a good job of setting herself apart from the rest of the candidates Swalwell - spoke well, got in a few swipes at the old men and a REALLY good swipe on Buttigieg, who he correctly identifies as his main competition in the "younger group of candidates" bracket. Bernie broke even, but probably ends up getting a bump because of how bad Biden did. Joe got absolutely trashed and should just wrap his campaign up tomorrow. Yikes dude. Everyone else was largely irrelevant - Yang was too polite to speak up about anything or push over his time, Hickenlooper was trash, Williamson made a few good points but kinda came off as someone's stoned aunt, and I don't even remember the other guy's name that's how little of an impact he had. --- http://weareontherun.bandcamp.com ^^^^^ HEY! ^^^ LISTEN! ^^^^^ ... Gillibrand - did a great job of interjecting as much as possible, and did a good job of setting herself apart from the rest of the candidates I would disagree on Gillibrand. She seemed too ready for last night's debate where the moderators let people walk all over them, so her repeated failed attempts in the first half to get called on ended up making her look like Delaney did last night. Swalwell played a similar role (not policy wise, but in the debate) as de Blasio, who actually surprisingly got a bump after last night's debate, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a small bump as well. --- ... I disagree, I think they paid off, as she (and Swalwell) were able to set themselves apart from the other "no-name" candidates better, which is really what the early debates are meant to be about. No one is going to leave these debates remembering who Andrew Yang is, which is unfortunate because he has a much more interesting platform than half the candidates out there. Gillibrand is as vanilla as they come but she's gonna come out of this much better than the other underdogs. --- http://weareontherun.bandcamp.com ^^^^^ HEY! ^^^ LISTEN! ^^^^^ ... yeah the main thing about the beginning debates while the field is large like this is that you need to actually stand out and draw attention to yourself. gillibrand stood out and will probably will get a bump from it (not enough to be significant tho imo). yang barely spoke, which will make him forgettable. even the breakfast cereal hickenlooper spoke more

I guess part of the problem to me is that Gillibrand isn't a "no-name" candidate to me. She's been polling way below what she "should" be based on her record. I'm comparing her performance to the other mid-tier senators like Klobuchar and Booker. Yes, if she had similar clout to Swalwell I would think that she did better, but she's a senator from New York who coming out of 2016 looked like she would be a bigger deal. So she needed more than just moments reminding people she existed. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I hope whoever wins includes him on their cabinet. Agreed. I just hope that Yang's internet popularity can keep him qualifying long enough to break through the cluster of pointless candidates and get some airtime. He sells UBI well enough during longer interviews but I think he struggled to dumb it down for the debate format. --- I bow before my emperor, Advokaiser-- winner of the 2019 guru contest. That's a fair take, but I think when the polls have you with the clods, you gotta debate like you're a clod. You can't debate based on where you "should" be in the polls. If she wants to catch the Gabbards and Castros of this primary, she's gotta separate herself from the riffraff first. ThyCorndog posted... Gillibrand will fade away. she's just an example of someone who came out looking relatively good. if you had to pick 5 winners and 5 losers shes probably up in the winners. she doesn't stand a chance in the election cycle overall I agree, at this point most of these people are just trying to increase their national profile in hopes of snagging a VP bid. You'll notice she spent a good amount of time pumping Bernie's tires. That's done with purpose, and it's another reason she comes away as a winner tonight - she knows Bernie needs to pick a woman and/or some minority as his running mate, so her soft support positions her as a potential pick, and if Bernie does fall out or start to lose steam, she's positioned herself to try to court some of his base (I have serious doubts that the Bernie crowd would go for her, but it's clearly a road she is considering). She came into this night with a prepared strategy in place, and she executed that plan. That's a win, by my count. --- http://weareontherun.bandcamp.com ^^^^^ HEY! ^^^ LISTEN! ^^^^^ ... Harris had a great night, even apart from launching a fatality on Biden. IMO, she and Warren are the biggest winners overall. Pete speaks well, but I think hes vulnerable to attacks and could get bodied if some one needs him to be.
Gillibrand did really well and seems to be fishing for Bernies favor, but shes probably too far gone to come back. Bernie got posed the hardest question(What would you do if Roe v Wade were overturned during your presidency? was some crap) but was overall mediocre on his own merits. He finished strong though, emphasizing his foreign policy chops(and reminding everyone Biden voted for the Iraq war) and the fact the effort was actually bi-partisan. His closing statement was fantastic. Lastly, if Biden doesnt tank after this, nothing goddamned matters. He was terrible. ... Copied to Clipboard!
