Are you talking about 10 or 13? I liked 13, and think the hate for it's overblown.

I was 100% talking about X. I've heard XIII is somehow even worse in that regard which boggles my mind. Never played it though.

Yup, the games are built for multiple playthroughs and second playthrough without cutscenes is the most fun you can have in a tales game.

Like you will often take small detours to get a chest or something, or while very linear will have a lot of turns

10 for a lot of the game it literally is an entirely straight line south to north with no frills. I don't mind this but I can see why some people might.

As someone who isn't even particularly down on the game's linearity I really liked that chapter.

Kinda weak plot but the game felt more satisfying to play. Sense of exploration adds a lot.

Apart from the highroads, most FFX maps have some branches for detours or chests. I mean it's not particularly significant but it isn't nothing

Yeah, it was always silly that 13 gets hate for hallway maps when 10 does the same thing and nobody complains. But I chalk that up to people trying to point out all of 13's flaws because they hate it while they'll overlook it in 10 because they like the game.

Oh, trust me. NO WORLD MAP was a huge complaint for FFX back in the day. It's just that FFXIII took up that mantle after it came out.
