Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay

Simple yet absolute terrifying. The book frames itself as a documentary about a reality TV show following a girl's live, on air possession and exorcism. Simultaneously a love letter to horror of all kind and a fantastic modern take on the classic possession/exorcism. It'd also be very easy to adapt the book to film as the premise lends itself to a lot of style while the story is short enough that it can easily be told in film.

Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt

Speaking of modern takes on classic stories, this is a very well done take on what would happen if a town in modern times was the subject of a haunting. It'd work better if they went with the original version's dutch village instead of an American town, but it's still fantastic. The idea of a town that has taken almost dictator-like control of the media to help hide the secret from the world is great, and there are plenty of disturbing visuals and ideas to carry this story past the initial interest.

The Troupe by Robert Jackson Bennett

Bennett is probably the most underrated fantasy and horror author of the decade, and The Troupe is his absolute best horror work, an amazing piece of dark fantasy that can rival Something Wicked This Way Comes. It's seriously a shame he gets so overlooked :(

My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix

It's a well done exorcism story flavored with an extra heavy dose of 80s nostalgia. An even halfway decent adaptation of this would be one of the easiest wins Hollywood has for horror books.

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

Oh please let this happen, it's just such a fun story. A Scooby-Doo analogue, complete with a dog, investigates a cult as their last adventure. As grownups, they all revisit the last, unfinished investigation and all the horrors they came across there. Cthulhu meets Scooby Doo just works so amazingly well.

can't remember the last time I read a horror book, but I always thought that an adaptation of The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker could be really cool, especially if it was a series, or something like that

While I wouldn't say no, that'd be a decidedly complicated one to do, especially regarding the characters becoming gods. Also, the amount of sex in it would make HBO blush, lol. I'd love for Barker to actually finish the trilogy...

true.

I just saw that Josh Boone is supposed to be working on a TV adaptation, with Owen King co-writing.

and tbh, I've only read the first book since I have the sequel on my Kindle somewhere, and I never got to it.
