@sktgamer_13dude Is kind of the reason for this topic because of this post -

and an NFL owner literally referred to NFL players protesting as inmates running the prison

So if you ever hear someone describe something as, 'gay,' in a negative way, do you complain about that? How about telling someone that they "suck" at something? Because those phrase are rooted in homophobia/sexism and not just a conmanly used phrase that people have been using for years with zero connection to slavery or racism until other projected that feeling onto others

I see and hear a LOT more homophobic people out in the world and at the school I work at with really offensive stuff and not just reaching for something to be upset about like an early version of the US Flag

That's the biggest issue I have with this whole thing, I guess. There is still really offensive things people do and say about gay people that no unchecked while people go out of their way to get really upset of the most petty of issues [Every US flag is racist, taking phrases out of context] when it comes to race

I've been a liberal for a long time. I guess it's because I have been fighting for gay rights in this country since the early 90s when it was opening alright to say horrible things about gay people that this makes me so angry

/rant

We have to start being nice to everyone, but we also need to stop over thinking every single phrase we use.

Seems like a weird rant to single me out, but whatever.

Especially when tons of people have been calling this out for years.

I have a homophobic friend and Im always telling him to be more understanding. Especially when he says he'd disown his brother if he was gay. It's weird cause he's such a good dude in other aspects but it was just the shit his mom and dad put in his head. If his brother ever did come out gay I doubt he'd follow through with disowning him. He's all his brother gots.

Not against you, just because of your post. Telling someone that they suck at something IS rooted in homophobia and sexism, being people who suck dick are worse at things then strait men. It used to be, "You suck dick at ____!", but it got shortened over time

And I don't think I need to explain the, "how gay is that," when responding to something negative?

Both of them DO have a negative impact of people, but what your quote said has no racial issues, until it was made into one by overthinking people on the Internet

I've given you links before, at least posted them on CE. But if you're still hard on your stance, that's fine, but I have to disagree with you. The phrase was always, "You suck dick at ___," growing up in the 80s and 90s. It wasn't until the 2000s when it the dick part got dropped

Here, I'll let someone that defends it's use talk about it -

https://slate.com/human-interest/2006/08/a-defense-of-the-word-sucks.html

I'm not saying it should be offensive, I'm saying that the phrase comes from something offensive and people defend that, but then you hear some phrases that have never been offesnive turn into something offensive to fit an agenda

Here is another link to read -

I work at a school and I hear things like this at least 2-3 times day. It is MUCH better now, though. It is getting better, but it is still things that no one really pays attention to. It's like, most people around them don't understand that it's offensive to say.

Yet even the slightest hit of racism sends everyone running in a panic. Racism is still very much alive today, but nowhere to the extent that homophobia is. I'm not saying one is worse than the other or anything like that, but a lot of BS slurs about anyone that the LGBT community still fly under the radar, when things like,

"And an NFL owner literally referred to NFL players protesting as inmates running the prison

Is seen to be racist

As a gay guy I tell people they suck all the time and don't care if they do.

Personally if someone says something is gay and they're using it just as a general term for something stupid/bad then I personally don't care. Now if they're actually trying to insult someone and call them gay that's another story.
