It's a good strategy, maybe not so much if you're just a fan of FFXIV but for them of course. I believe Cygames does the same thing, only they started with mobile games and are now doing their big budget games.

Because of the sheer amount of people playing. Even with characters being prohibited, it's not uncommon for there to be a 30-50 minute wait just to get in(Yes, there already is a login queue). Imagine if new characters were being created on top of that - it would massively exacerbate that.

Also, it's unfortunately nowhere near that easy. It also has to play well with the code as well. Plus, like stated above they'd rather fuel their "big" projects like KH3/FF15/FF7 Remake than where the money rightfully belongs(i.e, actually improving FF14's server structure).

I like FF14 so far, but my highest level class is a 36 Paladin.

I've been dabbling in other classes. Just got my Conjurer to level 30 and upgraded to White Mage.

Trying to decide on a DPS class. Thinking either Black Mage or Dragoon. It's either that or wait until I can access the quest for Samurai or Red Mage.

The community has been saying for months, either make a new character a month before the expansion comes out, or a month after

Unless you're leeching with a trial account in which case you are the last priority in queues.

A 2 minute google search prior to purchase would have told you this.

There's still no excuse for it. Wouldn't shock me if a lot of the "congestion" was artificial anyway but that's a whole other discussion about tricks MMO developers use to try and funnel people where they feel they need them to be.

I play the game regularly and am a huge fan of it but it's not a bad thing to call a spade a spade when things are fucked.

If your friends play on Aether you're absolutely fucked, Congested is a category manually applied by Square and you can bet they're not going to remove it until Crystal fills up more.

There's 8 books for sale about FF14 in English exclusively on Square-Enix's site.

5 artbooks, 2 world encyclopedias, 1 short story collection.

They prove beyond a doubt that an immense amount of resources were lavished on the development process of this game and its expansions.

Highly recommended, they've got a steep price tag, but they're pretty much the best video game literature I've ever encountered.

If you want to get on a specific world because that's where your friends play, just try creating a character there at a later time of the day. That's how I got on Cactuar, it was full so I just came back before I went to bed and it let me join.

I also want to get into FFXIV because of how beautiful the world is and how fun the community is, but it also feels really sterile compared to other MMOs I've played.
